Post Reply When did you stop being a nice person?
Posted 7/9/16
I don't think I've gotten to that point yet
Whenever I think about being a nice person this memory comes up, my friend was getting evicted and because she was my best friend I took out as much money as I could and gave it all to her just so she could keep living in her apartment
She's still living there and she's been wanting my paypal or address so she can pay me back but I refuse
I'm all for helping people out, but for some reason even if I desperately need money or help I refuse it
I'm not entirely sure why

I'll stop being a nice person when you give me a reason not to

I know what you mean by "harden", it definitely helped me get through when I didn't know any other way. Will I ever let the walls completely fall and have absolute faith in those around me? Likely not. I do hope they'll crumble down to something more reasonable. Getting comfortable with getting hurt, I guess that is the hard part.

The same time I stopped trying to connect with other people which was sometime in early college.

Used to be quite critical of myself and worried what others thought of me. I gave up on all that. I come across particularly mean to others now. I'm tired of thinking about what is or isn't appropriate--still getting it wrong anyway.

It's not my problem anymore if people can't handle my honesty. Then again, I see that as being nicer. Most don't.

As far as I'm concerned, you get what you give. I'm gonna treat you the way you treat me.

When I was around 16. Every now and then, I feel a strange wave of positivity and feel like being nice to people, but people quickly take advantage of it and just ruin it. Not being nice means no one has expectations of me and I have no expectations of them. It works out better.

I was a really nice, thoughtful, sensitive kid until about 10. After that shit got real and I became pretty jaded. I'm nicer now than I used to be though, since I'm much happier.

I stopped trying to be nice when I matured enough to grow away from a need for constant approval. It's not that I cannot be kind and/or won't be, or that I consider it acceptable to be a callous ass for no reason; I'm accepting of the other facets of my personality, and am more honest.

I've actually started to become a nice person recently - who knows when I'll stop.
