Speaking on behalf of men everywhere, I do in fact treat women nicer in some games. Don't know when you could get laid you know. That and I prefer the nice soft bosom of a female to confide into when she's not interested. Am I disgusting? Am I so starved for female love that I'll take on platonic relationships to fill my heart with?

yes, indeed you are.

I'm fine with one sided love! I just need female love!

you must be doing something wrong if you're not getting any female love tbh.

I prefer to find it on the internet. It's not like I was expecting or demanding nude selfies really, but the fantasy crossed my mine enough to tempt me to the dark side. I really just like talking to girls, portray my ideal womanly appearance on them, you know, the works.

A few months ago I re-subbed to an MMO that I used to play. Now, as a man... 99% of the time I always made male characters for everything. It just felt weird making a female character as a man. I have no problem playing games that force you to play as a female though. I loved playing the Tomb Raider games growing up, and Lightning might be my favorite Final Fantasy main character of the series.

Anyways, I decided to roll with a rugged warrior-like female character this time around as a nice change of pace. One thing that was obvious to me right away though was just how differently people treat you... especially men. As a fellow man, it felt like every other interaction was just a complete cringe-fest. I have a lot of newfound respect for women who deal with this stuff on a regular basis!

You tend to get more men who are willing to help you "from the good of their heart" only to ask you a million personal questions afterwards. I also found it impossible to give out any sort of small compliment or thanks (via dungeons, raids, etc) without men assuming I'm flirting. It's pretty funny when I tell them I'm a man and they go dead silent though.

I'm starting to feel like I understand women a little more lol. As for my fellow bros.... a lot of you are painfully awkward af. Whoever thought that telling a woman she's a "qt" was okay in any situation needs to reevaluate their social views.

Who else has had some funny experiences playing the opposite gender here?

being called a qt is awkward af, please please at least spell it out jesus lol

I think a great deal of this is the desire to form a relationship with a female, even without the expected coitus, though I believe a great deal of people who do this do entertain sexual fantasies of webcam sex and whatnot. Portraying the ideal appearance onto a female avatar is quite arousing for some people. I wouldn't be surprised if people masturbate with full disclosure of one's true gender. Or maybe it's just me.

My boyfriend has a stalker on FF because of this sort of stuff. He plays a female character and there's this one guy that's always trying to flirt with him, even after he said he's a guy and all. The other day this guy was talking about buying him a new graphics card. I think it's hilarious.

I didn't really get that back when I played WoW because I only really played on servers with people I knew. I was in guilds on every server with decent people and anyone that was perving would get kicked. So I had an overall positive experience rather than a negative one (and that showed pretty well considering how many dozens of toons I had and how many of them were capped with raid gear). Other than that experience I've stayed away from MMOs (and maybe because of that experience... I got a bit too addicted and I didn't really do much else besides the game and work for quite some time... it's easier just to not try out a new game instead of doing so and then getting lost in it) and I don't play any kind of multiplayer games either unless it's something with friends. I'm mostly a single-player game sort of person, gravitating towards rhythm games, shmups, and jrpgs.

Eh, I mangina'd in WoW since I dislike Blizzard's neckless roid ogre artstyle for male characters. I didn't get bothered too much. The key to being generally left alone is:

1) Wear pants. If you treat your character as a sex object so will everyone else.
2) Make a character that is taller than the average height of the most popular race. Creepers typically aren't secure enough in their masculinity to look up. Bonus points if you have larger biceps than they do.
3) Never, ever, ever, EVER, ever play a female elf or anything remotely elf like. EVER.

I've always played a female character, the free junk people give me is nice, even if it is vendor food because I already have highest tier weapons. That and generally when I play games I usually speak in a gender ambiguous way. I'd like to think that my friends knew I was a guy.

I've played characters of both genders in Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft. I never noticed much of a difference until I made a character on a role-playing server. Worst mistake of my gaming life.

Ho ho, yes. That's rule #4. Avoid the rp servers. >.>

50% of the guys on any given rp server read "roleplaying" as "cybersex". 25% are there to white knight against that 50%. The remaining 25% clicked that server by mistake but now their character is too high level to leave.
