Not too sure if this topic was created already.

Recently I've been going down memory lane reading my past diaries, or blogs, or forum accounts from couple years back and I can't help but cringe at most of the things I wrote as a kid.

I would think about why was I like that, why did I write that, what the hell was wrong with me?????

It's pretty normal to look back and think about how stupid you were as a child, but most of the things I've read from my past self makes me cringe and question 'was I really like that.....'

So, as the title says, have you ever?

Absolutely. I was a very cringey person growing up. I even have a little bit of cringe on this site from when I first joined. I looked back and thought. "I must have looked like a creep. I was just tryin' to be nice." What can I say? We make mistakes and do our best to learn from them.

Sure, past me has said things I strongly don't agree with. "Drunk me" from yesterday, or even right now, may have said something I look back upon and think "Oh, no. Why?" about. If one is incapable of negative self-reflection this is a defect, not a merit, right?

Definitely. I was severely depressed in high school and remember I came across a notebook many years later that I wrote in to try to help get some emotional release, and boy was I a mess. Looking back at stuff like that, it makes you realize how many poor decisions that you made. If I were stronger and more confident in myself, I would've been a much happier person, and that notebook probably wouldn't have existed. But I put myself in certain circumstances that really messed me up, and for that, I cringe at my actions.

Oh god yes.

I don't know what my parents were thinking.

I also don't remember being all that stupid, but apparently... things happened at some point.

I hear you. Same thing here but I didn't keep a diary. Due to family situation really screwed up my school situation. I have since destroyed all my photos etc from that time as it isn't useful dwelling (or blaming myself}on my actions bought about by circumstances out of my control .
It took a long time to realise this and sometimes still a struggle but little by little I reinvent myself.

Any embarrassment I ever felt was dealt with at the time of the event. I don't think I particularly feel embarrassed about my past.
