Plot Summary

The world was close to being destroyed by Ultimate Despair, who caused "The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History." In order to save this world from the event's chaos, the Future Foundation was formed. Although the organization continues its activities to restore the world, Makoto Naegi is under suspicion of treason due to him shielding a Remnant of Despair.

The Future Foundation members had gathered together to decide on his punishment, but they all end up getting trapped inside the place they were meeting by Monokuma, who demands that they begin the "Final Killing." They have strange bangles put on their wrists, and are given tranquilizers when a certain time arrives. To make things worse, there apparently is a real traitor amongst their ranks who is coming to kill the members of the Future Foundation.

In this game where class trials don't exist, the only way to get rid of the traitor is to find him and kill him off. Naegi is forced to face the ultimate death game, where it's kill or be killed. The tale of despair in which hope kills hope begins

Will DR3 appear on this site, or will it be on Funimation's site? I mean officially, anyway.

Weird episode, we got introduction of the familiar characters but also at the same time, the Future Foundation and establishing the hope + despair themes.

Theme songs are nice and we already got some first deaths. Looking forward to see the rest will unfold...

Whoo! Awesome start.

I finally get to see what the Remnants of Despair looked like before the 2nd game. XD

How was this episode weird? The only weird part is the lack of Byakuya and Toko/Syo, but we kinda knew they'd be side characters at best considering they weren't introduced with the rest of the cast...

Getting some 999/VLR vibes with the wristband things, and they got to the killing rather quickly, and once again, a character I was starting to like a lot... We did get to see the Ultimate Despairs in action though, so that was awesome. Still was rather hard to tell who took what from Junko's body, so still hoping that'll appear in the Despair chapter at the end.

Also, I assume that since this takes place after DR2 and they've already shown the Ultimate Despairs to be the characters from DR2, that we don't need to spoiler anything in regards to the second game in this thread?

Well, they already gave a reason as to why Toko wasn't there at the end of Ultimate Despair Girls.

ok so i know this may be a dumb question but i feel like i can't find a definitive answer. i realize the anime of D3 wraps up the Hope's Peak Academy students arc. But the D3 video game is actually set at a completely different place, right?

Episode 2

What a strange game they're playing..

While the mystery part doesn't feel familiar from the original season, I still get a bit of the thriller feel. Really curious about the rest of the Future Foundation members though. Also, Monokuma is literally playing mind games with these kids. Glad to see that Kirigri is still on top of her game with her intellect so far.

The OP song is decent, ED theme song is quite eerie, and I think in general, this arc is much more serious than the other one.

RIP, another victim..

Kinda figured she would be the 2nd to go. She was the closest to Naegi, still sad to see her die though so soon. Calling the white haired self righteous guy to be the attacker. He is too gun strong to make Naegi the "killer". Plus having the first victum being his assistant/love intrest? pushes blame away from him. Hopefully its not like past danganranpa where

And here I was, thinking Asahina would be safe being a returning character and all. I might have been too optimistic thinking surviving one killing game meant you're guarenteed to survive another. This show doesn't pull any punches.

Oh and RIP Bandai too, he kinda felt like a joke character to begin so they probably used him to give a clear example as to just what would happen if someone broke their rule.

For the heck of it, I'll speculate on which of the remaining characters are most likely to make it until the end and who's the traitor
