If you really dislike the markings, there's always the option of simply grilling in ways that prevent it. Careful, indirect grilling, as well as utilizing iron skillets and dutch ovens are available, amongst others.

I like the charcoal flavour plus you don't have to worry about how you're going to dispose of gas containers.

Charcoal!!! Always charcoal! (Along with chicken leg quarters and pork steaks. . .gotta use the fatty pieces of meat to keep grilled food moist and tender. . .)

I love grilling my burgers with charcoal with mesquite chunks for smoke. Cherry chunks for smoking chicken and no smoke for steak.
