Post Reply Something with good action and drama (emotion)? Feeling picky.

I like to trade off the shows I watch, I usually keep about three but I only have two now and they're both kinda peaceful in a way (Rourouni Kenshin does have fighting but a lot of it is about peace and slice of life and it's mostly kinda laidback despite the darker moments, plus I've already watched it before), so I'm looking for a third that's more intense and I haven't seen yet.
I want a show that has fighting that isn't blinding from flashing and that can pose real danger to the characters (bonus if someone actually dies), that has real tension and emotion between the characters and moral uncertainty in their actions, lastly I don't want it to be cliché (even if the action and drama are good, some things just kinda ruin it). I don't know though, maybe I've pretty much picked crunchyroll clean on this, I've watched a lot.
I might be willing to sacrifice a couple points if it's good on other ones.
Any thoughts?

It only gets worse, the more you watch.

Hunter X Hunter and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are the best at avoiding typical shonen clichés. Character motivations are very clear and that is why many of the battles have a lot of emotion behind them. And the battles use a lot of strategy than just brute force, especially in JoJo, the battles in that show are some of the most creative I've seen in anime.

And by the way, I don't know how far you got into Kenshin, but whatever you do, stop watching after episode 62, the rest of the series is nothing but filler and it leaves you with a very sour taste, especially after the masterful Kyoto arc. Instead of watching the remaining episodes, watch the Trust and Betrayal OVA series.

I was referring to watching anime in general. It's harder to find shows that are truly rewarding, so you're either left longing to relive the classics, or left waiting for something that may never come.

Yea, that's what I thought you meant, the more you watch the harder it is to find things that live up to what you've gotten to like.

Sounds pretty good, they are on my list and people do seem to like them...

Oh, I know, last time I watched it I got so bored when that happened that I stopped watching, so, yea, I don't plan to go farther than that. XD

Thanks for the thoughts.

I promise you won't be disappointed with either of them. Just keep in mind that JoJo is still airing with it's fourth season, while Hunter X Hunter has already finished with 148 episodes. Just a little bit of information so you can decide which one to watch first.

Right, I've been watching the newest season of JoJo so I thought I'd check out HunterXHunter for now, it looks long but since it isn't updating there isn't any pressure to catch up in a hurry. Thanks again for the advice.

Nonetheless, even if you find yourself lost in choosing what to watch, there are shows that can surprise you.

No problem, and sorry, I didn't know you were already watching JoJo, so go ahead and watch Hunter X Hunter when you have the chance and take your time, it's important to enjoy it instead of just rushing it.

You might try watching Parasyte, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, Shinsekai Yori or Gangsta. Not all these series are on CR though.

Thanks, I liked Parasyte.
Yea, it's always a bummer when crunchyroll doesn't have them, other sites aren't very good.
