I am super stoked for the game. Exploring vast unknown worlds seems like it will be a joy. The game can't come sooner.

Here's a nice breakdown of some of the gameplay mechanics present in the game:

This game allows me to almost fulfill one of my dreams, but I'll need to buy a VR headset first.

According to Metacritic people are hating it. I will try it out for myself eventually but i'll probably wait for a steam sale.

"This game is boring" appears to be the common staple with the negative reviews. Supposedly theres a lack of variety of things to do on each planet you visit.

I played it just a bit at a friends house and I will say that I do think the game looks pretty but when I was looking for materials or whatever I had flashbacks of Destiny material farming but that's about it so far. I only played it for maybe 30 minutes but from what my friend has messaged me is that he's liking it though he's not too sure if that game was worth 60 dollars

I like open world games but I'm not a fan of giantic areas with nothing to do in them. I'll hate No Mans Sky if it's mostly like that.

I found an amazing planet with hilarious animals on it and tons of flowers and resources, but the atmosphere was pretty toxic. There was an animal that looked like one of the creatures from Where the Wild Things Are -- it was actually "humanoid" in appearance, but had a bird head, feathery mane, and then a sort of normal lion-type body standing on 2 feet like a person. I fed it and it ran around in circles really fast like an idiot.

I've been disappointed that I went off on this tangent towards an Atlas Terminal and ALL of the systems have been red, all the planets have been red with extreme heat, no life, no flowers or animals... it kinda sucks. I am hoping I can warp away from the terminal and get back towards planets that are awesome and full of life.

Got it today- gotta admit I quite like it. It's a pretty chill game and I'm fone with that- not a game for anyone who was hoping for epic space battles or anything like that.
Man, i dun goofed though- I spend maybe half an hour stuck on this one lifeless rock looking for zinc to fix a new ship that I had recovered.... As it happens, zinc only seems to appear around a type of plant- and there I was on a rock with seemingly nothing but metals, carbon and an atmosphere that drained my life support in minuites. Thank god I stumbled upon a trading post and was able to buy what I needed! FYI- I named that planet "Hellhole- stay away" if you should happen to come across it.

Only a little bit longer for the PC version...very weird there is no preload on Steam at all...but PS4 had a preload. I guess it isn't a big game anyways.

I redeemed my preorder ship and broke the game. Now I don't have a hyperdrive blueprint for when I inevitably find a cool ship with no hyperdrive.

So yeah, make sure you have hyperdrive blueprints before redeeming that preorder bonus.

I caved and bought it (because who needs $60?) and it's about what I feared prior to release. The best way to describe it is a very, very small survival game in a pointlessly large sandbox.

The much-touted procedural generation seems to be a bit of a joke so far: The flora and fauna of every planet I've visited (and most that I've seen in videos as well) are interchangeable (Ohhh! The lizard-thing on this planet has two horns instead of three!). The NPC trader ships in particular make me laugh - it appears to spawn from a list of only 5-10 ships at each station. I've been in a starport and had 3 "clones" of the same ship, with the same pilot (name, avatar, everything) selling the same wares, for the same prices, all be docked at the same time.

PC optimization is, likewise, pretty bad. Lots of frame drops even on my beefy rig, clunky feeling controls, a UI that takes the worst elements of both console and PC game UIs and smashes them together into one craptacular inventory management headache..

If the experience improves at all I'll let people know, but for now I recommend avoiding it.

I think a lot of people just blew their expectations way out of proportion and thats where the hate is coming from.
I for one have been really enjoying myself with this game.

You can get some beautiful screenshots if you come across a nice planet.

This.
People seem to forget this is an indie game made by a small team- not some Bioware style AAA project.

I wanna try it out, but not at that price point. I would only pay that much if the game was unbelievably amazing and I would guaranteed get many hours out of it
