This once again proves that SHSL Luck prevails.

I think this is appropriate for this episode:

- Gets the drugs mixed up
- Accidently makes someone else give the bad drugs to the judges
- Accidently makes someone else blow up the gym
- Accidently makes a giant dog crash through the gym
- Accidently makes 3 best friends hate each other so much that they try to kill each other in the Future arc
- Everything still goes according to plan.

Luck is too OP. Please nerf.

Just as I was wondering if we were ever going to see Nagito's crazy side before meeting Junko, this episode happened.

I bet their teacher is going to be Hajime's teacher now. I mean if he's still normal the next time we see him. I don't remember if they ever mentioned how long he was being experimented on.

They sure know how to build the anxiety level nice and slow. But that's alright. With the Future Arc running back to back with this one, it puts a lot of things in perspective (such as the source of steaming hatred between Seiko and Ruruka......

By the time both arcs comes to a head, would be that moment when the one culprit would be revealed. Tying the two series together.

It looks like they are meant to be watched simultaneously so watch 1 episode of future arc and then watch 1 episode of despair arc.

Cut off time for DanganRanpa 3, here we go.

NOTE: Shouldn’t need to be said but, if you are someone whose only exposure to DR is JUST the anime of the first game and you either haven’t played DR2 (and for Future, Another Episode: Despair Girls), can’t play it, or won’t play it:

Don’t watch DR3. You’ll be saving yourself a massive headache if you do.

Both Future and Despair are being made explicitly with the fans in mind (as dictated by the creators), aka people who have experienced most of the DR content in whatever media form they’ve taken. The anime is not going to stop and explain any of DR2 and Despair Girls to give you full context of their meaning in the anime. And even then, whatever explanation they do give is going to be very brief and very inadequate on delivering the full context.

Anyways, onwards and upwards.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Despair

Technically the one I like the most this one is also the weirdest to talk about.

Unlike with Future, an anime that explores either the DR1 or DR2 class during their regular school days is something I’ve always wanted to see. Both for slice of life-esque action of the characters just going through their school life and all the potential comedy that comes from it. As well as finally showing us all the events firsthand leading up to DR games. Which for me, yeah I’m getting what I asked for. But the way how it’s all rolling out is…weird.

The first two episodes are what you expect in seeing the DR2 class living their school life. With all the silliness that comes with it and the return of some old favorite in-jokes (the one sided love triangle between Kazuichi, Sonia, and Gundham, Teruteru being the perv that he is, the ultra competitive-ness between Akane and Nekomaru). As well as giving us more insight into Chisa’s character, helping quite a bit since, y’know, she died the first episode of Future…which is a shame because she’s really great. Second episode being devoted to Chiaki and her trying to fit in with the rest of the DR2 class. Which on its own is very fun and a delight to watch.

Then we have the third episode in which we witness the Twilight Murder Syndrome case, but from Hajime’s perspective. That we also learn more context about the incident that wasn’t made known in DR2, like learning more about the victims Natsumi Kuzuryu and Sato. And learning, to nobody’s surprise, that Hajime always had it in him to become his own Ultimate Hope.

And we have the latest episode, which dives back into the sillier side of things, when we find out exactly what happened that caused a split between Seiko and Ruruka over in Future…and that it was all accidentally caused by Nagito. And it involved laxatives, bombs, and a giant puppy.

So there’s a bunch of events happening, but seemingly events that have no direction connection to each other.

But when you start to think about the endgame…it’s not entirely unconnected. All of these events are leading up to the DR2 characters falling to despair.

Mahiru and Fuyuhiko being in despair over people close to them dying, the general despair this inflict on everyone in the school, Hajime’s despair over the divide between those with Talent and those who don’t, and the (hilarious) despair wrought by Nagito from the bombing and laxative incident. That no, Junko wasn’t COMPLETELY responsible for every aspect of the DR2’s class fall to despair. That there were several incidents that happened before her arrival that planted the initial seeds of despair. Which is certainly a relief and does put a hold to making Junko seem like some godly mastermind that planned for EVERYTHING.

On top of that, apparently the reason we aren’t learning a whole lot about the new characters from Future within the Future arc…is because all of that exploration of their backstories and personalities happened in the Despair arc. From Kyosuke, Chisa, and Juzo having been close friends in their school days and their investigations into something sinister at the school, Juzo was always a dick, the aforementioned falling out between Seiko and Ruruka and their relationship beforehand, that kind of thing. Which does reinforce the idea that Despair and Future are meant to be watched together and not separate.

(speaking of which, has it been stated before how far in advance did Junko plan bringing Despair to the world? Like, was it as far as her planning things before she even entered Hope’s Peak?)

Really the only major issue with Despair is the usual baggage that comes with any prequel: knowing what the outcome and endgame is. That you KNOW that Class 77 is going to fall and become the Remnants of Despair. You KNOW Hajime is going to become Izuru Kamakura and bring about the Tragedy to set things in motion. And we’re back to the usual arguments brought up on the supposed inherent pointlessness of prequels in that if we know what happens at the end, what’s the point in getting invested in the characters and story.

So 4 episodes in…it’s one of those shows where you know exactly what the ending is going to be, but aren’t entirely sure what the journey is to get there. It’s kinda weird but I kinda like it. Certainly a more easier sell then Future.

They're here! Now we begin the fight between

Hope

and
Despair

It was nice to see the Imposter's backstory, or at least a small part of it, since the game didn't reveal anything about his past.

Chiaki is the best class rep anyone can ask for. That's not up for debate. I'm going to feel really bad for her the next time she sees Hajime/Izuru.

Dat 6 month growth spurt tho...

Remember, the easiest way to tell Junko apart from Jukuro is to look at the boobs. Jukuro has a very nice modest pair, while Junko's approach gag-boob levels while still being sexy cause Junko.

Honestly, kinda doubt they're gonna do a Zero arc, as that'd take up too much time and take the focus away from the DR2 cast. We're going to see how the DR2 cast gets pulled into despair (and most likely the student council killing game) over the course of probably 5 or 6 episodes, with the final episode or two being them all waking up after the events of DR2 and coming to save the day for the Future Arc gang.

Doubt we're really going to see this fight, as that doesn't occur until DR1 I'm really curious how Naegi is going to be acting during the crap that goes down, because it's implied he doesn't become the Ultimate Hope until the events of the first game. He'll probably be early-game whiny Naegi for most of it

Chiaki is ultimate bae, waifu, husbando, bb, gf, bf, and anything else. Chiaki is Ultimate Co-Op Partner. Next time she sees Hajime, there's a good chance she won't be seeing anything ever again then I'm really hoping that Kodaka doesn't decide to become the Ultimate Despair and have Izuru kill Chiaki, that'd just be TOO cruel

And Saionji is HNNNNNNNNG after that growth spurt. See people?! THIS is why you treat your lolis well.

Also, the Despair Sisters complete and utter lack of value for human life is scary funny. Junko's apparently just always killed people for giggles, and Mukuro doesn't care about being a constant target for killing and just shrugs off the attacks onto others. I'm gonna be watching for random grenades out of limos from now on

Looool, well yeah I mean anything is possible in Danganronpa. I wouldn't be surprised if she had taken breast implants. Well not that that actually happened nor would she have had to go that far, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Also I know it would take up quite some time since DR/Zero is pretty long, though the dots just connected for me when I saw Yuto of course, but as well Naegi enter the stage (who also appeared in Zero). Well I guess it's only natural for Naegi to appear though.I would still love to see it animated.

But first Enoshima-time!

At least my wish came true. All I wanted was some Mukuro screen time because I quite liked her in the DR1 free time events. The limo scene got me

Zetsubou Zetsubou Zetsubou for the SDR2 cast
