I've begun to notice that quality, deep, fleshed-out romance is sometimes hard to come by in much anime today. So, I would like to hear what your favorite anime with a solid romance/romantic element is!

And if you could, I would like you to tell me why you chose that title!

Cheers!

I can name a few...

- 5cm per second (it's actually a movie, really sad but enjoyable)
- Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Quirky and funny)
- Kimi no Todoke (It's sweet)
- Bakemonogatari (Unexpected twists, weird storyline but good)

- ReLIFE (This is a personal favourite, I consider it to be really relatable, script is good imo)
- Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (One of my favourite anime, revolves around music with some romance elements)
- Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (Japanese culture + Nice cinematography, pretty "human")
- Sukitte Ii na yo. (Just a nice classic vanilla romance, but really worth-watching)

That's it... well not all of it, but some that I've watched.

Did you read the manga for 5cm per second? I enjoyed the ending to that one a lot more than the anime. It was great though. Heartbreaking. But great.

And I agree with you completely! Re:LIFE was amazing! I was blown away by that one. Really really good.

But I haven't watched Bakemonogatari....I have seen Kizumonogatari part 1 though. Bakemonogatari has a good romance? I may have to look into that one now...

Romance is my favorite genre and Crunchyroll is missing a lot of my favorite titles.
Three really good ones on Crunchyroll are: My Little Monster, Sword Art Online, and Golden Time.

Bokura Ga Ita <3

My absolute favourite. Not in Crunchyroll but worth looking for elsewhere. It's a bittersweet take on the actually realities of a real relationship. The silly fights, the struggle to make up. It's not all pleasantries but the hiccups along the way are actually relatable. I like it because it's down to earth and doesn't deal in extremes. Plus the animation is gorgeous. Theres a manga too, and the anime ends after the first arc of the manga but don't worry, the anime ends in a fashion that it feels like it actually concludes it isn't some epic cliff hanger like many have. And while the manga follows the story through I do honestly love where and how the anime ends.

On Crunchyroll I'd say my favourite is Blue Spring Ride, or its one of the very top at least.

Romance:
Say I Love You - As weird as it sounds, to me, this is pretty much what an anime written by John Hughes would look like.

Rom-com:
Servant x Service - All the characters are quirky, yet lovable and it has pretty much a real world feel (with the exception of one character who is fun to watch anyway).

Yuri Love:
Sakura Trick - Innocent love between two young friends.

Bizarre love:
Dog and Scissors - It's a relationship between a sadistic female author and her #1 fan who comes back as her dog. So strange and yet so much fun to watch.

Dark Maiden of Amnesia is probably the only one I'm going to list. I mean, she's a ghost, he's human, it's a kind of love that he may never be able to reach out and hold her, she had a dark past, died in a cruel way, but she coincidentally met him. They started doing all sorts of things, it was a real blast, and it even made my cry manly tears at the end. It's definitely on my top 10 anime, just so good.

Toradora!

Also, I actually liked the ending of Oreimo and how the two were being adult and realistic about the situation, although I'm sure everyone disagrees with me :/

Yeah romance is where it's at. Like, how should I put this...Sword Art Online may be one of the best examples of my "perfect" show because it had a strong plot with epic action, yet at the same time one of the best romances I've ever seen in anime. Those are the kinds of shows I'm looking for. I love me some gnarly battle scenes, so having action AND romance is perhaps my favorite type of anime. But often times we are kinda left hanging where the focus is either too much on one or the other. So many action anime I've come across sorta jab at a blooming romance but just never develop into anything tangible.

Golden time was pretty solid too. The ending was kinda wonky but I personally didn't mind as much as some. I thought the romance was really sweet and the characters were fun.

My Little Monster was a good time for sure but romantically speaking it kinda left me hanging. I personally didn't feel the romance was conclusive. The show just kinda...ended...

YES! Toradora!

This was indeed one of the best romantic anime I've ever seen! Each character was so well fleshed-out. Amazing storyline, amazing animation and amazing confession scene!
Definitely one of my favorite anime of the romance genre.

My Top 5 romance anime on CR:

Toradora: as mentioned.

My Love Story: Best protagonist-wingman relationship I've ever seen in an anime. Also some really funny slapstick.

Snow White with the Red Hair: Female lead is strong-willed and independent; easy-going, well-paced romance.

ef: Tale of Memories: One of the best love triangles I've seen in an anime; great use of artwork to draw out the emotional impact of the story.

Golden Time: One of few anime about a relationship (as opposed to about falling in love); great portrayal of the difficulty in moving from an idealized romance to an actual relationship with an actual person who has faults and baggage.

There have been great recommendations so far so I will add " Nagi no Asukara - A Lull in the Sea. One of my personal romance/drama favorites that was not mentioned and has a very profound plot and the characters are masterfully developed. It is also well balanced with some light action and comedy. It left me with a sense of longing and fulfillment at the same time.

Also Forgot to mention "The Pilot's Love Song" which has allot of action included and a well developed storyline. This anime was sadly to short.

You might also want to watch "The World is Still Beautiful". I couldn't stop watching this anime and finished it in a single afternoon/evening. This one I wont even explain why i loved, just watch a couple of episodes. You will really enjoy the two main characters and how their relationship develops into a strong bond of love and trust amongst the politics of the kingdom and the fact that the King is still a tad young for her to marry

Hope this helps a tad.
