I've begun to notice that quality, deep, fleshed-out romance is sometimes hard to come by in much anime today. So, I would like to hear what your favorite anime with a solid romance/romantic element is!

And if you could, I would like you to tell me why you chose that title!

Cheers!

There have been great recommendations so far so I will add " Nagi no Asukara - A Lull in the Sea. One of my personal romance/drama favorites that was not mentioned and has a very profound plot and the characters are masterfully developed. It is also well balanced with some light action and comedy. It left me with a sense of longing and fulfillment at the same time.

Also Forgot to mention "The Pilot's Love Song" which has allot of action included and a well developed storyline. This anime was sadly to short.

You might also want to watch "The World is Still Beautiful". I couldn't stop watching this anime and finished it in a single afternoon/evening. This one I wont even explain why i loved, just watch a couple of episodes. You will really enjoy the two main characters and how their relationship develops into a strong bond of love and trust amongst the politics of the kingdom and the fact that the King is still a tad young for her to marry

Hope this helps a tad.

Hey Norasuna!

Cool name by the way.

I will agree with you the Pilot's love Song was pretty solid. There was a movie that kinda plays in that vein as well, but yes they are fun ones. Nagi no Asukara was a cool premise. Really enjoyed the whole "water kids" and "land kids," but as a romance it left me kinda unsatisfied. That's just me though!

I may look at The World is Still Beautiful . I was initially thrown off by the kid being so young...the age gap kinda threw me. But you speak highly of it so I may give it another look.

The Pilot's Love Song is based on book 2 of a classic Japanese novel 4-book series. Book 1 is http://www.crunchyroll.com/the-princess-and-the-pilot , the movie you mentioned.

According to the creator of the anime we'll be getting books 3 and 4 eventually as well .

Oh okay that would be cool to check out. Cause the film kinda crushed me...was not too happy with the ending there. It was good, but the ending was too bittersweet for me..or at least for what I was looking for.

This is where the fun comes in...

The characters from Book 1, 2 and 3 all are left hanging. Book 4 brings them all together in one epic series ending to finish all 3 stories at once plus a new couple introduced in Book 4 as well. Unfortunately the light novels haven't been translated to English yet. I'm dying to see the couple in book 3 and where Book 4 takes us.
