global illumination isn't anything new like AMD and Nvidia wants to claim, it's actually been around ever since CGI (computer generated imagery) was invented and have been used in movies ever since CG started to pop into movies. However it's only been a few years since graphics cards had the power to render it in real time without having to render it for hours. So my point still stands, it could've been a global illumination demo of some sort. Or something like shadow, sun reflections or similar that technically could be considered a part of global illumination.

It's not new, but GPUs in 1998 were neither programmable, nor supported things like that in hardware. I'm guessing it uses maybe just fixed function lighting or some sort of stencil tricks to do that , but it's _NOT_ global illumination.
