Is there a point to being nice to people online anymore?

Personally, I prefer to remain polite and courteous. Though that doesn’t mean I can’t be honest or have heated discussions or diverging opinions.

Now, if someone wants to be insulting or wants to engage in online mud flinging, I prefer not to abase myself to their level. I just ignore them since I have a more interesting things to do and not enough time to do those things.

Yes. It shows that you have character and you are decent. However; if a person is being a dick, be a bigger dick back at that person.

If being an asshole is your default option, you should pay people for every hour you spend with them just for putting up with you.

being nice to me seems like a way to implant a pleasant image to some/most groups so that the success of persuasion increases if even a little bit (trying to talk to someone who doesn't like you sounds difficult). although i believe being nice is often left to the receiver since what they are feeling (illogical or not) is how successful you are in invoking that image. if it's just one meeting with a guy online, the first impression seems important in that you may speak with him/her/??? again, meaning you will not have much time to alter the course of your relationship throughout that one conversation (then again, that also means you could not care about someone you'll likely not speak with again). how one would try to find the right words to be nice the person they're talking to?....ehhh....i dunno, i haven't studied too much rhetoric

I'm always nice until you give me a reason not to be

Hello, fellow crunchyrollers.

I would have said yes but I don't know anymore, I find it harder and harder to do so these days w/o somebody running over me mistaking it for weakness or insincerity.

I haven't given up on all people yet, and a lot of people in my life are great and easy to deal with, but its often with the younger generation and it just becomes a headache to deal with them.

I know there are still good people mixed in with the bad, and people taking advantage of people's kindness thats mostly to blame, its just annoying and I've got enough to deal with,

So how do you feel about being nice to those who don't appreciate it-- I don't really care now, I'm nice to those that are nice back and if someone isn't trying then I don't want to, lol. ~

Is it even worth being nice anymore if ppl prejudge you for it. I've seen how being a dick pays more and less considered to be fake than trying to be nice, so I guess I'll be a dick these days.

Being nice and civil is the best way to go. If someone wants to be a jerk, report them to the mods. That's what they're here for.

I get your point. Personally I just ignore things like this, not reason to think about it.
