So like the title says I'm wondering why everybody hates the second season of Tokyo Ghoul. Is it that it doesn't follow the manga or do you actually think it's a bad show?

personally I absolutely loved both season of Tokyo Ghoul but I see so many people trashing the second season without actually saying what they dislike. I cant imagine what they actually hate about it and simply not following a manga doesn't make the show itself any worse so I'm curious about others opinions?

P.S. that being said I'd love to see a more canon adaptation as well

i agree with you i thought both seasons of tokyo ghoul were handled well alot of people were just throwing a fit because they decided to drift from the manga in the second season.

I'm guessing because it's shit? I haven't watched any of Tokyo Ghoul but my most trusted anime sources say it's been overrated since the beginning, and considering it blew up around the same time as stuff like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online(at least here in America...) I wouldn't doubt it. But I'll watch it eventually, you have to give everything a fair shot after all!

Also just to be clear Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 > Brotherhood, so ya, following the source material isn't necessarily indicative of a show's quality.

It's not that great, but I enjoyed it as a different approach towards the events that transpire in the manga. The reason people dislike is because the manga is so good that not following it when making an adaptation causes it to be classified as "Trash" in other words. It's like Elfen Lied in a way that the adaptation is not great/good compared to the manga, but in Elfen Lied's case the anime adaptaion is so bad compared to the manga that it gets lots of hate, which is understandable. It's all a matter of opinion(It's mediocre in the story aspect, but it's still fun to watch)

This is my opinion on this matter(If I did not follow what you asked that would be a mistake on my part and I'm sorry for not following what you asked if I didn't)(And I'm sorry I kinda went on a rant about people not reading the manga of Elfen Lied just because the anime is bad)

While it did get me into the manga, in hindsight Root A was meh for a few reasons.

-Overall, the anime, quickly strayed away from really letting the series get darker. Or at least failed to portray it enough.

-What was left out and changed was a pretty big point of development for several other characters aside from Kaneki. Even then, after rewatching, it didn't feel like they hit his development well to me.

-A small gripe, but the censorship was terribly annoying and always bother me. Especially considering the nature of the series

-They also dumbed down or simplified a few side characters. Shuu, for example, is portrayed as simply pervy and crazy. They never really mention Ayato's true intentions, plus some of the deviations make the 3rd season a bit difficult to get right.

I understand some of this is due to time constraints, budget, etc.; but the studio missed several important points to really getting the world and how it works/feels/is down. Additionally, I never really care for when a side character is left half filled for the sake of being the side character.

Any FMA fan is a friend of mine

In all seriousness I actually think they're equal, different positives and negatives for both(to this day it's the only series I think is equal for both, I usually hate those generic ass "they're different but equal" neutral stances)

well i did most of my comments while the show was current.

they pretty much did that in order to finish the story in one season... and in turn going away from the manga's direction and thats why

I read the manga ahead of the anime

There are so much failure in Tokyo ghoul anime, that my life can't even compare.

But yeah, I just can't take people that say they love Tokyo ghoul root seriously, since it is in fact complete shit.
I actually forced myself through 11 complete garbage episodes to see
, even in shitty animation, and what do I get? 5 minutes of Kaneki carrying Hide through the streets.

Simply put, the direction they went with Kaneki's character is what made this season so loathing. There's that, and the fact that it doesn't follow the manga. Pretty much, it's all about how they turned Kaneki into this monstrosity.

Still can't believe I made myself go through both seasons of the anime

It wasn't even THAT great

While I did find some things I liked in Root A, I found a lot more problems with it. And I say this as a fan of the first anime.

It would take too long to re-type all the issues I had with the show, so instead I'll just link to the review I did for the season almost immediately after it ended: http://anitay.kinja.com/tokyo-ghoul-a-the-ani-tay-review-1694726518
