Was the fruit named after the colour or the colour after the fruit?

I'm going to greet you with a soppy good morninggg!!!!!!!!

Disappointed cause I thought you were talking about the anime.

I will say the fruit came first. It was called "orange". Later on the colour became "orange". It's a lucky guess because I think from nature did these colours become known.

The fruit. I saw an article a while ago, it comes from the Persian (maybe some other middle eastern/ north african language). I only remember because the Spanish word for orange naraja is nearly the same as the original word. It came to English by way of a bunch more translations and we ended up with orange.

It is because of the French, in the end.

The colour was named for the fruit. Orange was not considered a colour of its own until the 16th century - prior to that it was called "yellow-red."

Just one of those things that sticks in your head when you come across it.
