Hello everyone. I am moving from 'General discussion' to 'Anime' as i just get insanity from it.

So in order to get my mind back on track i need something innocent to discuss:

So is the 2003 version better than the other one or not?
What do you think?

Brotherhood.

Personally I don't think the 2003 version is bad but I like Brotherhood a lot better.

It's really worth watching both.

However, if I could only choose 1 to exist, then Brotherhood because of the happy ending. I'm a bit of a sap.

Brotherhood. It's the G.O.A.T. The 2003 series is also great, but the difference is quality is pretty noticeable as Brotherhood is on a whole different level. FMA Brotherhood will be coming soon to CR, while FMA is set to expire on Funimation soon. I'm pretty sure it will follow suit and end up on CR on the behalf of Aniplex.

FMA 2003 kind of had its own interesting thing going on with its darker atmosphere. Unfortunately, the confusing ending and weak villain drags it behind Brotherhood, which I feel to have the overall stronger story.

The 2003 one is darker and ends on a more bitter note.

Brotherhood allows more characters to have a chance to shine. Even the side characters (some of them didn't exist in the 2003 series) who would usually never be relevant in these types of shows. The 2003 anime caught up to the manga about 3/5 of the way through and so the rest was anime original, which made parts of the ending feel weird and out of place. Not that it was bad for anime original content. It was actually good. But Brotherhood follows the manga to the end so everything connects better there. The 2003 series also tried to make some of the Homunculus have some relation to other characters, which made the interactions between them more dramatic IMO. Brotherhood doesn't do that, some of the Homunculus are different from their 2003 counterparts, and they're a lot stronger, making them more of a challenge for anyone not named Roy Mustang.

As stated before, Brotherhood has the happier ending.
