I'm not quite sure if this topic has already been covered, if so I apologize.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari [The Rise of the Shield Hero]

[Summary]

Naofumi Iwatani is a carefree 20-year-old college student, who'd rather spend time on manga and anime than studying up. One day, as he's browsing literature at the local library, and stumbles upon an old tale, known as The Weapons of the Four Saints. Before long, he is suddenly whisked away to the very land that he read about in the book, and he's not the only one. Including himself, three other guys, Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki, are warped from the real world to fulfill the roles of the Saints, taking up the titles of the Lance, the Sword, and the Bow respectively. Naofumi gets the short end of the stick and is given the Shield, and as such is looked down upon by the other heroes and royalty. With very little time to spare, the team is dispersed to fight for the land of Melromarc, and defend it against evil forces known as the Calamity...

...But all is not as it seems. Soon, Naofumi's original idolization of this fantasy world is shattered by a betrayal, he is framed for a crime he did not commit, and is robbed of his status and monetary backing from the country. With no money and no way to actually fight back with a shield, Naofumi's very faith in this world and its people is extinguished for good. Disillusioned, Naofumi's biggest problem isn't the Calamity, but surviving every day in a world that despises his very existance.

Original Light Novel story by Aneko Yusagi and the Manga Adaptation by Aiya Kyu, join Naofumi in his quest shrouded with anger and mistrust, as this manga turns the idea of fantasy worlds on its head.

Love this series. I read the entire web novel and could not believe where the author originally ended it. Now in the light novel form, some things are changed and I hope for more details on the world. Its a good read for anyone interested in the genre.

It was an amazing series. Something I notice is that although they hinted a lot in the webnovel, they never specify the origin of Rafetalia origin. That was something that was left out of the loop although was hinted at many time how important it was. I think it will get covered in the light novel though so I also hope they cover it in the manga.

Overall great series with good ending after the author had to revise it hah! Although it was a bit cheesy and obvious it was the ending that was deserved.

I completed the WN a few months ago.

The WN ending felt kinda odd in its direction and it's kind of a forced ending after the author was pushed to modify his original ending. The WN and LN deviate from volume 4 (so says the rumors), so the LNs will probably end in a much different way.

That is correct. The LN and WN started going different directions in volume 3, but really split in volume 4.

Oh? We talking the novel right? I purposely skipped the WN to buy and read the LN to support the author and im just addicted. Waiting months for the next chapter is painful (still didn't read volume 5 yet but had it for a week right now) How the author did the transporting to another world theme was so different it got me hooked since i read the manga. I heard the WN and LN go different directions which makes me happy people who read the WN can get a fun read as well with characters they like. It's a 10/10 atm for me as a series and i'd recommend buying it to nearly everyone who likes to read. Question whos the light novel written by if not the original author?

hmm, I thought the author for the light novel and the web novel were the same. It is just that it is slightly more different. Doubt the author can make it worst and can only see the changes he would make improvements. They probably go different direction but at some point it will eventually converge into the same ending probably. The ending was pretty satisfying.
