Even more so, because most digital software in the near future will require advanced equipment. Even say.........in 2080, there's still going to be a lot of pratical uses for materialistic stuff, and while a lot of it will be streamlined into digitalistic stuff(as you like to call it) the rate of inventing new products by that time will outdo the rate of turning certain things into digital-used items.

We will probably be materialistic for the foreseeable future. It's not like we're going to suddenly become nudists.

I voted for software collection, but I also think that people will need to get less materialistic in order to allow the survival of the specie, unless they find a way to move to other planets before.

Wouldn't you still have to be in some way materialistic for the devices that hold the digital data?

I'm confused by that poll option...

Yes, materialism has been around, to some extent, in the west since at least the 19th century, I don't see why it would disappear in the foreseeable future.

If communism manages to overturn democracy and weed is legalized, maybe we'll become happy sharing hippies again.

It pretty much depends on the change of the social structure and its direction. To understand what a social structure is, it is what change Maou Sadao, put the characters of Hataraku Maou-Sama in clumsy situations, motivate the antagonist of Shakugan No Shana to change it, and constrain the magical girls in Magica Madoka. The increasing materialism in America has its roots in job security; the jobs instability cause the parents to overwork and negate their children so their children are socialized by advertisements which emphasis materialistic value.
