You can try and make him watch Kill la Kill a bit more, I know he'll find something to enjoy there. As for JoJo, that guy needs to understand that not watching it because of the art style is a very superficial reason and it's not valid at all. If he ends up not liking JoJo for whatever reason then it better be for something to do with the story or the characters, because not liking something just because of how it looks is one of the worst excuses someone can give, and that applies to video games and movies as well.

Never. It is entirely possible to subjectively like something that is objectively bad and subjectively dislike something that is objectively good.

Don't be a sheep. Like what you like and give no ****s. Unless what you like hurts others then stop being a dick.

I should've known I'd get a bunch ''teachings'' like those when I made the thread. Yeah, it's not like what you're saying is common sence, not at all.

I guess it's easy to interpret it as me seriously asking if shit taste can actually trancend the power of subjectivity

Common sense isn't.

I'm fully aware you're post was rhetorical and simply a means for you to publicly vent your frustrations that another human being whom you have a close relationship with does not share a similar taste in anime as you so I gave you a generic answer.

Have a good day knowing your opinion isn't being validated ;p

P.S. I'm being facetious if that wasn't already obvious enough.

As much as I want people I know to enjoy anime, I hate making recommendations. Its just so hard to account for taste, but more than that, there has to be some sort of a drive or a passion in a person which makes them want to watch something. That is impossible to account for. If someone unenthusiastically goes into something, theres a pretty good chance they wont like it. If they aren't willing to do the work to figure out what to watch, they probably don't have that drive...

Show him School Days. If he likes that, then there's no saving him.

EDIT: If you haven't seen School Days, for the love of god, ignore this post.

When the person has the audacity to criticize a (good/better) series unfairly while simultaneously praising another series and overlooking the same criticisms (or overlooking everything wrong) in that series just because he/she "enjoys" it more. Biased AF.

Ummm. Well... I tend to just think of these people as just new but... people who only watch action shonen series post 2000 except Dragon Ball Z and nothing else. They don't usually analyze what they watch, they just enjoy. They are fine with me until it becomes aparent they aren't spreading thier birdy wings to explore other genres. Like they don't explore harem ore moe or mecha or psychological.... But I think the worst thing about these people is that they usually think Love Live is for girls and wont watch a single ep. They wont watch any Shojou like Sailor Moon or Ouran High School Host Club. They wont watch any other magical girl show like Madoka or Princess Tutu. Even things with a girly reputation are off limits like Inuyasha. And worst of all... they always complain about having nothing to watch or how nothing is as good as DBZ.

It isn't so much shit taste as it is failure to launch away from the battle shonens and grow up.

taste is always subjective imo

I second this.

And I third it. No one has the right to expect anyone else to have the same taste as them. It may be fun if you just happen to have similar tastes but that's not necessary.

He does not. He mainly listens to mainstream pop.
He's not your typical anime watcher.

No wonder he's so stubborn.

I'll probably show it to him. I have a feeling he'd like it.
(School days was fairly entertaining to me)
