Say someone has told you they loved you, or had feelings for you, or whatever affectionate or amorous reason, but you can't reciprocate.

Would you give them a simple or complicated explanation? Would you give them an explanation at all? Would you be a complete ass about it, or find some gentle way to kill the idea?

OR, do you just ignore or avoid the situation(s) altogether?

I'd give it a go and see if any feelings come up, or if you know that it won't happen, find a gentle way to let them down so they don't feel that bad.

I wouldn't want to just drop off the Earth on that person. I would be honest about my feelings the best of my ability. Avoiding the situation/& or ignoring that person wouldn't be the best option. If this person is a friend (assuming that person is) they deserve to know how you feel. Avoiding would probably complicate things and lead to misunderstandings &/or false hope on the lover's end.

I'd look them in the eye and be upfront about it. A complicated explanation confuses people. I remember I got pissed off one time cuz someone rejected me in a really rude way when I asked her out.

Just a simple "Sorry, no. I'm not interested in you" is enough.

They'll move on. I also hate giving reasons why I don't want someone to be my girlfriend and etc. They tend to turn it against me after and say I'm "really" shallow and a dick... Esp. if I say they don't appeal to me physically and etc. Been called a pimp and faggot before because a girl wasn't "my type"... :w00t:

I've tried ignoring/avoiding the situation - Had one of my crushes given shit since I liked her and the other girl I left "standing" was really jealous and unhappy.

^ It doesn't work. Simple is best.

Depends on the person. Normal, non-psycho people you can give simple, honest (must be honest) answers to and let them down humanly. Treat them as you'd like to the treated in a similar situation. "Pay it forward."

Psycho, stalker, clingy people are tougher. The real psychos, you don't owe shit to and the more you try to speak with them, the worse it will become. Don't lie to them (don't lie to anyone), but don't put yourself at risk either.

The slightly psycho people, which is like 93% of the human population, need simple, firm honest answers. You gotta be firm though. You have it thought out and don't buckle.

And don't use humor. Take them seriously. If you're honest, the non-psycho people will thank you years later. Truly. The slightly psycho people will think about you when they're having sex with the people they settled for.

The nutjobs will always hate you.
