Flash over the last few years has seen a great deal of issues with being buggy, vulnerable to hacking and malware, and in general seems to be far inferior to html5 after learning about the latter. Having just been nearly attacked on my old desktop when trying to update to the latest flash player version, I am uninstalling it from there as I can't use Crunchyroll on it anyway due to the nag video about adblockers causing it to repeatedly freeze up. I don't know if this is due to the old machine using an older OS or not, but in any case, flash seems to be far less preferable for video playback. Were it not for the fact that Crunchyroll doesn't use HTML5, I would have uninstalled flash from both my old dinosaur of a desktop and my windows 10 laptop ages ago. I AM taking it off my desktop just because the few sites I use don't demand it on them anyway.

So when is Crunchyroll going to offer the option for HTML5? From all I keep hearing, most websites are either already on HTML5, or are moving to it now due to how antiquated and vulnerable flash has become.

Any thoughts here? Or even better, a timetable for when Crunchy will allow people to use it as a player option so they can get away from the stress and hassle flash can cause?

Things are finally changing. At least for Premium Plus members, there's now a HTML 5 player beta and I've been using it and it is way better than the flash player that it's not even finally. And it's just a beta, that tells ya something

JFYI HTML5 sound support is quite fine https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats
For your particular issues you may want to look at your configurations (maybe your hardware does not support everything, or has some setting wrong)

DRM is working pretty well too (ever tried Netflix?)

And if CR trusted this flash piece of garbage so much, why would they insult customers by embedding their name at the beginning of each video ? (Like if it mattered.)

I dislike flash so much (horribly laggy on windowed mode, perfectly smooth in full screen) that I stumbled on this page.
I will not insist using this service if I have to go through flash (I only installed a walled instance for CR)

Flash is poison, it has to die.

Any chance on this rolling out to Premium and Standard users? I'm also in the 'refuse to install Flash' camp. I still use it on my tablet and Android TV but it'd be nice to use the web streamer also.

That is the normal result of running a beta; get as many bugs as can be found ironed out, then roll out to regular users.

Other current alternatives include an unofficial HLS player extension created by one of the moderators (Beardfist) and the official CR app for Windows 10.

Windows 10 Creator update is disabling Flash in the Microsoft world. The only browser that I can use at this point is Chrome and I don't know how much longer they will support Flash. I hope the HTML5 player launches soon or I will end up having to watch CR on my mobile devices only.

Flash still works for all major Windows 10 browsers. Flash is still supported by the latest Windows 10 update... it's just turned off for your protection.

I am running the latest Windows 10 Creators update. Here's how it works for Windows Edge browser:

1.) Make sure Flash is turned on. Got to Settings > Advanced Settings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.) You'll be shown this when you web to a site with Edge that has Flash content:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.) Clicking on the text "Get the latest Flash Player" pops a box in the upper right corners that says "Adobe Flash content was blocked.". It give you two choices. Click on "Always Allow" if you want Flash to always work on a site like Crunchyroll.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.) At that point, Crunchyroll's videos will play normally.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firefox works fine. Chrome works fine. Opera works fine. I'm not a fan of Flash either, but Windows stills fully supports it. They just turned it off for your protection.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help! I tried it but when I went to turn it on, it was already turned on. I left CR, came back and it still says that I need to get the latest version of flash. I even tried turning it off and back on but I still go the error. This only started to happen after the Creator update was installed.

Toggle the setting off and back on.

No luck, tried turning it off, shutting down Edge, reopening Edge, turning it back on, restarting Edge again with no luck.

I'll give up on Edge for now and use Chrome, flash still works in Chrome.

Thanks for helping everybody!

You can also use the Windows 10 UWP app. No Flash involved there: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/crunchyroll/9wzdncrfj15t
