Just go into the show with the mindset of looking for the good things instead of the bad things. I'll notice bad parts to a lot of shows, but I'm still able to enjoy them because I look past those parts and just focus on the enjoyment. That's pretty much just my philosophy with life in general.

No.1: Give us all a guide on how to stop cringing at anime.

Stop watching it.

Problem solved.

Seriously, what the FUCK is it with people these days? Somewhere in the last twenty years, every discussion about everything has turned into "waaaaaa, I do things I don't like" as if it is somehow someone else's problem that you are STUPID and make BAD DECISIONS.

If you do not like doing a thing, STOP DOING IT. That's not fucking rocket surgery.

1. If its unoriginal than don't watch it. It's honestly not worth it to sit something mediocre without at least some redeeming quality.
2. Nisekoi, although it actually is good for all the stereotypes it fits in.

Watch Ranma 1/2 again....or for the first time.

NO seriously, go, GO, WATCH IT.
Original is not a word to describe Ranma, that's a 151 episodes of going around in circles. not a bad show, but not a recommendation for something different.

Sounds like you're describing what most 12 episode anime are

Step 1.) Make a cringeworthy, unoriginal thread not-so-subtly complaining about cringeworthy, unoriginal characters/anime

Step 2.) Have a bunch of people tell you you're wrong, unoriginal =/= boring

Step 3.) Realize that nothing is original anymore and everything has been done in some shape or form

Step 4.) Understand completely what you're told in Step 3 and either:

a.) find something else to do with your free time*

OR

b.) find the entertainment within the repetitiveness

* - WARNING: Everything in TV, Movies, Books, Video Games, Manga, Light Novels, etc. has also been done many times over and will probably be just as cringeworthy and unoriginal as the characters/anime everyone loves to complain about and may result in the creation of similar threads on other forums/reddits. Cringeworthy and Unoriginal is not for everyone. Consult your Doctor before use.

You're asking Crunchyroll users whose top three most popular shows are Naruto, Dragon Ball Z and One Piece. You are asking people with a average maturity of twelve year olds on why they don't find immature, clique shows bad. If you ever want to have a thought-provoking conversation you will have to find another site if you haven't realized this by now. As the only replies you get are this show is great (I like it therefore it's good), and if you hate this show so much why do you watch it (I don't have either the ability to form a counter-argument or I like it and don't like you saying bad things about stuff I like).

. . . . I think what the OP is actually referring to isn't unoriginal characters but flat characters.

Characters can combine old elements in interesting ways, and be very interesting and compelling..

Really unoriginal characters tend to be flat because the writers are just copy-pasting them from other shows, and not thinking about why they like the characters they're copying.

Characters that aren't entirely original can be enjoyable. I hate to keep using examples from K, because I know I'm just that person who turns everything into an essay about K, but it's a really good example of characters that don't seem all that original, but end up being a lot more interesting than you anticipated. e.g. Munakata is practically just Roy Mustang with glasses, but he's so interesting. ...and hot. Most of the twists about him come from the manga and novels, not the anime, so he might not be a good example. But I was just mentioning in another thread that this one character seemed a lot like Anna, but... probably doesn't end up like Anna. Not going to spoil, but it's good.

And I don't think it's good to just shut up, and suck it up and watch things you don't like. If you don't like it, don't watch it. That's why I've watched less than 5 anime this year. It frees up my time to do other things, like write my novels ^_^;

I would agree but than you got the Muv-Luv visual novels and Gintama that throws this theory completely out the window, you have the right attitude though.
