Yeh the art in Naruto especially early was awful even in the last years the art got bland and empty. This while the pages can be a bit overly busy and it's not very memorable It's fine to reads. How I feel about this is like how I feel about Blue Exorcist it's fun enough the art is not bad at all and its entertaining enough to keep me reading. You're thinking of the sword's spine btw,

Ah, the spine. Noted.

I disagree about Black Clover's art. I find it well framed, finely detailed and very memorable with a fantasy style with a slightly more west european influence than you usually see in manga (not surprising given all the obvious influence from irish culture) To each their own I guess.

Didn't say it was bad just sometimes the page seems too busy but thats probably due to the translation as the english langauge takes up more room than japanese.

So I went and read Black Clover... yeah, I don't think it deserves worse manga of the year.

It's true that Black Clover has the "never give up" theme that you see in a million other places like in Naruto, but Black Clover has its own story (the anti magic aspect drew me in). I think people say that it is a cheap off of Naruto simply because Naruto is one of the most popular of the stories with this sort of theme and an underdog protagonist. I can see some parallels to popular stories like Naruto and Fairy Tail, but there are so many "never give up" shounen adventure stories with a hot headed protagonist that I would say that Black Clover is simply another one of those kinds of stories. Not original, but not a cheap off either.

Personally, I have enjoyed what I have read so far. The art is good. Some of the magic abilities that we are introduced to aren't completely cookie cutter. The protagonist (while not highly original) is likable. The plot keeps going at a good pace. Black Clover isn't the best manga of all time and it isn't unique, but it seems solid to me.

if it's just a generic shounen manga how can it possibly be the worst manga

People need a target, in order to express their negative feelings! A manga that is new, it gets quite popular at a very fast rate and contains elements of other manga is always in the center of attack. The same can be said for series like Fairy Tail. Even if a huge number of people express their negative opinions for FT, the series has entered its 10th Year of serialization. It is like it tells to all of its haters: "Hey there, I am still here, even if you hate me, I won't go". I don't say that people can't express their opinions, but by hating a series so much, somehow makes the ones that like the series feel a little bad. I really feel like people are bullying Black Clover! If you don't like it, don't read it, that's the way. I don't like HxH,so I don't comment on it. I just read the chapters when they come out. And people keep comparing to Naruto. It like comparing a kid to its grandfather. The Grandfather is the Grandfather, and the Kid is the Kid, even if they have some things in common, they are different people. The same for BC and Naruto.

I gotta thank these guys because it gave Black Clover some spotlight in the west(it might be negative at first glance, but people will try it and realise its not as bad as these people say it is).

BC has some similarities to Naruto but they aren't that much its just the people haven't read older manga and think Naruto invented the underdog MC and the Never give up theme.

Black Clover is all about Friendship, Effort and Victory, WSJ Motto.

its probably the manga that follows that motto closest in WSJ right now, which is why its taking off in Japan.

as soon as I saw Bleach on the Under-rated but Great Manga list
I immediately stop finding this a legtimate source.
Granted I havn't read Black Cover but I will now can't be worse than Holy Knight or SAO and it can't have worse art than FLCL or HXH manga.
And after reading the insulting abomination of hell known as Drag-On Dragoon Shi ni Itaru Aka which was the last manga I read this may be a nice surprise.

Edit - First issue of Black Clover and it;'s fucking Naruto. No wonder it's considered worst manga.

Edit 2 - Ok so it's actually better than Naruto it's typical shonen but so far not too bad. Don't see why they listed it as worst.

under rated? UNDER EFFING RATED!!!!

Bleach was over hyped as hell for years and dropped in popularity from being over extended and the author just not really pulling out anything truly new.

Under rated implied a hidden gen of a series that not many have noticed despite it's quality and potential. Bleach is more like a worn out gem that used to shine brilliantly but has since dulled and no one cares about anymore. It's not that it's not noticed just no one cares enough to continue paying attention.

Basically it's passed it's prime and is now a famous manga of old. That is not even close to under-rated.

After reading the first few chapters, Black Clover really just seemed like a cheap knock off of Naruto. In the same sense that Natsu in Fairy Tail is basically just a concentration of what the author thought was popular about Luffy from One Piece. The initial impression I got from Black Clover was that the author tried to make a manga using just the elements that he thought won Naruto its popularity. Needless to say, I was bored, and dropped it quickly.

So basically, if you've seen Naruto, Fairy Tail, or One Piece... there is a good chance that you will roll your eyes at Black Clover and say "Not this shit again."

Except that Fairy Tail is a Good show, and One Piece is annoying and terrible.

I don't get that feeling, Black Clover has not made me groan in annoyance like Naruto and One Piece did. It's not special but it's better than both of those despite using the same elements.

Can't trust a list if they voted Bleach as best "under the radar" manga

Yeah I mean if Bleach is under the radar then so is Yu Yu hakusho, DBZ, and Fullmetal Alchemist!

You seriously can't call something "under the radar" if it used to be super popular and has had it's readers move on. That isn't the same as a good, new manga that isn't getting the attention it deserves.

Maybe it gets better along the way. It's happened before. The anime Blood C for example is extremely dull for the first like 5 episodes and then the last half of the series is awesome and action packed.

However, the first 3 or 4 chapters of Black Clover, really made me not want to continue reading it. If I feel that way, it wouldn't be a surprise that others do too.
