After reading the first few chapters, Black Clover really just seemed like a cheap knock off of Naruto. In the same sense that Natsu in Fairy Tail is basically just a concentration of what the author thought was popular about Luffy from One Piece. The initial impression I got from Black Clover was that the author tried to make a manga using just the elements that he thought won Naruto its popularity. Needless to say, I was bored, and dropped it quickly.

So basically, if you've seen Naruto, Fairy Tail, or One Piece... there is a good chance that you will roll your eyes at Black Clover and say "Not this shit again."

Except that Fairy Tail is a Good show, and One Piece is annoying and terrible.

I can't argue with your opinion about One Piece. There are really only a few things I enjoy about it and mostly everything else does indeed irritate me.

For Fairy Tail though, Lucy is about the only thing I enjoy about it. I find the rest of the show to be extremely obnoxious. Especially Natsu. Both Luffy and Natsu are complete idiots, however what Luffy has over Natsu, is that Luffy is not constantly screaming. Natsu always has his volume set to max.

Eldoras Natsu wasn't bad though.

Maybe they consider it under the radar because it started to suck to the point barely anyone cared or read it anymore.

Does anyone really want a Mob Psycho 100 english release that bad? The art for this manga is pretty bad IMO and I enjoy this series as an anime, but that's just me. Some of the better spoiler-free panels I could find.

can't be worst than Attack on Titan. After the anime hype, the first volume sold like hotcakes.

I bet Holy Knight is worse than this one. Mao-chan too. Never read this one, BTW.

I saw the holy knight ova (and did a review on it) and read the first 2 volumes of black clover. What you said is 200% true

Well, I'm back, and I read through the whole thing. I actually quite liked it, and now I'm interested in what the author plans to do with the series from here on. It falls prey to a lot of your typical Shonen Jump tropes, like the dim-witted MC, beating the dead friendship horse, and the MC grinding his way to stronger enemies that logically speaking he should be nowhere at the same level as. Thankfully, either the author is able to balance this just by using every other shonen trope well, or I'm just not as bothered by it as other people are. Probably a bit of both.

I think it's handling what it has fairly well. I'm a sucker for these long-running shonen series. I like them for their ability to entertain me over long-periods of time with their more segmented arc structure that has a chapters long fight at the end as a pay-off (bonus points if the fight is well-drawn). In that sense Black Clover is doing a respectable job. Let's hope that the series doesn't take a nose-dive like that other long-running shonen series.

I think the only long running shounen series that haven't taken nose dives that are still being written are One Piece and HunterxHunter so to me that cpuld mean anything lol

I mostly agree with this though, especially the chapters long fights. Hell I could take a fight that lasts a whole tankoubon or two if it was done well.

I actually like Black Clover and thought the story was well put together so far. I don't know why people are complaining that it's so similar to Naruto when there's a lot of other shounen manga with the same themes. At least the females in Black Clover can pull their own weight and fight against the bad guys. I mean Sakura (and the other female ninjas) didn't get strong until it was closer to the end of series.

If any one wants to buy the manga, the first volume is already out.

I ordered the first two volumes (2nd volume was released two days ago). I can't stand free/illegal sites that are translated by fans, can hardly stand the quality and the way they translate it. I'm thinking I'll like it though, I also picked up all the available volumes for My Hero Academia and Tokyo Ghoul, loved their anime.

I think (or hope) that most people are reading Black Clover in WSJ (which for those who don't know, the English version is extremely cheap, though I hate the publisher with a burning passion).

Black Clover as worst manga? Well I haven't read all the manga currently being published, so I can't say for sure, but it is definitely pretty near the bottom. The one thing it has going for it is that it does have some very nice art. I just wish there would be more focus on the characters, world, and conspiracy stuff rather than have 1 page every ten chapters featuring a semblance of a plot and then the rest just boring, generic fights and the main character saying over and over about how he wants to be the wizard king. He has it even worse than Naruto. At least Naruto had a very convincing motive and you felt for him. Asta you don't feel much bad for.

This was voted by 5 people that call themselves critics people so i will cut them some slack.
It was also based solely on volume 1 so it was mainly the usage of tropes.

Black Clover is not even the worst manga in WSJ , Toriko with complete nonsense plot and just random shit happening , Bleach with deus X machine everywhere.

Also most people don't know it because YYH is quite old, but Bleach is more of a copy of YYH than Black Clover is of Naruto
(like some people claim).

Bleach was such a ripoff of YYH that when Kubo submitted it to the editors, they rejected saying it was too similar to YYH.

But doesn't wsj only have the latest chapters? Only volumes 1 & 2 are available to buy, so what do they expect us to do if we can't read in between what's available to buy and the chapters wsj has? This is the problem I have w/ the way manga is established here in the west. Anime does it well, but we need a better method of reading manga online. I can't stand illegal fan sites, so we need a stronger method of a pay per month subscription plan than what viz media offers. Although I love that Crunchyroll has started this service, there's still only so many titles they have at the moment. I hope what CR has started continues to grow and flourish. *crosses fingers*

I know how. Black Clover is caught between voters who; vehemently dislike shounen comparable to Naruto and the like; are unimpressed with another typical shounen of this caliber/don't think it stands out; and fans of similar series resisting competition. Well, that, and Black Clover is well-known enough to garner the necessary amount of votes.
