I played Osu and Stepmania every single day, unless the teacher was talking or we were to be quiet.

We didn't have the internet back in my day. I did spend weeks trying to get freaking King's Quest to work on the school computer though. It had like 8 or 9 Disks and it would take me most of the class just to load it sometimes. I don't know why the computers hated that game so much. I think it was too big for them or something lol.

Anyone recall playing The Oregon Trail at school? I always got my settlers killed. Once the oxen are dead is pretty much over. It was fun to make them cross rivers though. Those poor settlers. All they wanted was a new life but instead they got me.

Let's see, the first computers my school got, I was in 8th grade and the school was given about 8 Commodore 64s. None of the teachers knew anything about computers so they made the youngest teacher, who happened to also be the music teacher, teach "computer class" which boiled down to him handing out booklets about BASIC programming and telling us to "write a game." So I spent the rest of the class writing a program that did a fancy blinking opening screen in ASCII art and got an A in the class.

In high school, we only got one class our Senior year, and that was on Apple computers and we were supposed to be learning Apple Fortran. So they'd give us an assignment and two days to do it. But at the end of each class you had to turn your disks in and no guarantee you'd get the same one back the next day. So I'd get there early the second day to get a disk from someone who knew what they were doing and debug what they'd written instead of writing something from scratch. Got an A in that class too.

College was the first time we used computers for more than programming, I had to learn WordPerfect 5.1 and Lotus 1-2-3 for writing papers and to do spreadsheets in accounting class. Mosaic and the web as it's known now didn't come along till after I graduated, but we used KERMIT to get onto servers and use gopher holes to look stuff up or play MUDs. But since you only got limited time on the school lab computers I never really got into too much because there was always someone else waiting for the system. Only a few rich kids had their own computers in the dorms and it was all dial up if you wanted to connect to anything outside.

Change some coding so every time someone hit space bar the disk drive would open.

Yeah, I remember Oregon Trail. Horizontal Apples (I think, this was like 1988 or '89 when I was in about 2nd or 3rd grade), Fat CRT monitors in 16 shades of green, and 5 inch floppies that would make kids nowadays wonder if they where beverage coasters from a restaurant. I don't remember the exact dates, god I feel old and I am only 36

Hacked the boot process to get past admin protect areas of the school network.
Almost expelled and threatened with jail time if I didn't show them how I did it, so
they could protect the network, so it wouldn't happen again.

Only did it because I wanted to see if I could. Very dumb of me to do it then show
others what I did. Showing other people is what led to me being caught.

How is that dumb?

That's actually cool :)

I wrote a tiny little script that opened and closed the cd-rom drives at random intervals and put it on all the computers...

It was dumb, but also fun

One of my mates mother's was the IT lady for our school and he knew her admin password as it was the same as at home, as a result we had access to all the School systems including website access as the passwords were all stored on her personal work computer which could be accessed remotely.

As you can imagine we wrecked the joint, including posting pro-hitler messages and replacing school logo with swastikas all over the website. We also deleted some student accounts.

No idea why, but I imagine if we got caught as the ones who did it we'd of been kicked out.
