You stuck your fingers in your ears and closed your mind to deviation from your favourites. You might as well be ranting that anything made post-Beethoven is crap.

I like rock and metal I must admit but it doesn't make other types of music crap, it's just personal preference

Good music is out there, just not a lot on mainstream radio stations (at least here in the States). Can't expect it just to be handed to you anymore. You've gotta go find it.

Well, the closest I can come up with to explain the large influx of fairly mediocre performers is the boom in talent competitions and the ease people can garner support, thanks to the Internet. Plain-Jane performers can get their voices more easily heard and promoted. That said, they rarely last long in the business. Their names usually fade into nothingness within ten years, if even that. The music business is still Darwinistic. Another issue is that, thanks to the sheer number of performers, sticking out from the crowd is somewhat difficult. Not to mention, we have performers and producers who are more hesitant to take risks.

As for Jpop and Kpop; most performers have little to no say. Their producers usually lead them around by their noses. In the West, it can be said that too much control is given to the performers, while the opposite can be said for Japan and South Korea.

At the end of the day, yes, more performers and producers are more interested in money than talent.

I cannot agree that modern music is all-around shit, though. At the most, I will concur that most are awfully generic.

Well in America music is used to segregate. Rap and R&B are merging as is Country and Rock. Everyone is focused on making one size fits all music, well at least that's the shit they play on the radio. Everywhere else music is great.

I only like songs that meet my 2 criteria. Sounds good/good vibe to it and it doesn't have stupid f*cking lyrics, or typical song themes like a love song or something. With some exceptions like Happy by Pharrell Williams.

This year has actually been pretty good for music, you just need to do a little digging and keep an open mind.

You're pretty oblivious. Stop taking things at face value and look a little harder than what is played on the radio and you'll see your closed off world has been a lie this whole time.

*Points up* Well said Akane1984. I couldn't agree more. Radio Stations these days only play what the studios tell them to (sometimes due to perks/payola, others due to simple demands of being pulled from their demo lists if they don't do it). It's been the way of Radio since it's inception. It's why I prefer to listen to fan-created internet radio stations and surf Youtube randomly for whichever music genre I'm interested in listening to at the moment. Just because a band is unplayed/unknown doesn't mean a band is bad, just that the studios decided to put their money behind something more mainstream.

I don't listen to modern music, but the little I did hear did not like but that's just the mainstream radio as users stated on here you have to dig.

Rap and R&B are not the same thing but mainstream make it seem that way just as much as Rock and Country are not the same even if these 4 genres share qualities.

Jpop and Kpop are genres I can't speak much on these genres but from what I know those artists are in chains and told what they can and can't make or do when music, just like any other art form is supposed to be about freedom of expression of one's self. No record label, no producer, nobody should be able to tell you what to do and this just angers me because of my love of music.

All in all though none of these are my genre, Funk is where my heart lies and anyone who knows me on these forums or in real life knows this.

Some modern music depend too much on techinical stuff it becomes "bad", but there is nearly always something to like in some songs even if its considered bad.

Rap for some have maybe gone down in "quality" but there is still quite a few good ones out there (forgot their names though)..
Like some of the more famous people seem to have less standards then what they usually had.
Maybe so because of how much they need to sell these days and how often.
to how many that can battle with more of the same equipment then how it was before (instruments or digital) and such.
