RAP: is so bad i given up on it.

bro/pop country: still listen but maybe once a week

Jrock/jpop: trash once didnt like it.

Rock: a little

Metal: alot i thank its the most original as of now.

EDM: not music

GOD PLEASE bring us back to good times.

Music no longer tells stories with plot thats why its meh

However alot of Jpop/rock tells stories like my favourite being the song series Kagerou days

Like a lot of others have said, there's good modern music out there, you just have to look around. A lot of stuff on the radio isn't for me, but I've found a lot of other stuff elsewhere that I've quite liked. Greed and bad music has always existed, you just have to search a little harder these days and hope you find something you like.

Yea! What happened to the good ol' music! Music died after 1900, I'm tellin' ya! Bring bach the good ol' days!

Seriously though, music doesn't get better or worse - it just evolves. Just like anime or any other artistic medium out there. If you can't adapt and appreciate modern music, then listen to what does appeal to you. Especially now in the age of the internet, chances are there's someone out there making contemporary music that you'll like - even if that music is just in the style of past eras. This is probably one of the best eras to be alive if you like music.

And if no one is making the "good music" that appeals to you at all, then I'd say that's your chance to make it yourself! If it doesn't exist, surprisingly, there's actually probably a market for it.

I like a little bit of all the genres, doesn't mean they're all good in someone else's eyes, and it's not like I like all artists/songs. There's really no point in complaining, other people just have different tastes than you, this subject can be argued backwards and forwards. There are artists like Lil Wayne that can make some really shitty music, but have a few songs that appeal to me. Just gotta look for your own music

to be fair how does one expand their taste when everything either sounds bad or lacks a story.

I have found i only like very very niche music myself because 90% of the stuff out there feels lacking in what i find important in a song :o.

he might be the same

This is such a hipster, annoying thing to say. Honestly, while I do agree previous decades had MUCH better mainstream music(especially the 70's and 90's), there is still good music being made.

In fact, some of it is REALLY popular.

Like Queens of the Stone Age's ...Like Clockwork

or Radiohead's In Rainbows

or what about those really popular Muse songs that were on Twilight? Sure the movie sucks, but the album they're from, Black Holes and Revelations, is one of the best pop rock albums ever invented.

Just search for good music man, don't be stuck in the mud. Use Sputnikmusic.com, I have an account there!

are you sure you have listened to everything?

i don't know how other people do it, but the way I expand taste in music is checking out music channels on youtube. Like for example, I used to not like EDM, but I checked out channels like TrapNation, MrSuicideSheep and Koala Kontrol and found that some EDM songs are for me. OP said EDM's not music but some do have soul and a story in it, and there's actually a whole lot to EDM like the subgenres of Trap, Chillout, House, Dubstep etc- and you don't have to like all of them. I personally hate dubstep so I just avoid listening to it = -=

OP even said so himself that he only listened to Jrock and Jpop ONCE and didn't like it.
that's so constricting. If you don't let yourself try out new genres then of course you're going to be stuck in that "omg it was so better back in the day" bullcrap = - =

having a preference is one thing but if you're hating on other genres only after one song then there's something wrong with you.

*Points up* Well said Akane1984. I couldn't agree more. Radio Stations these days only play what the studios tell them to (sometimes due to perks/payola, others due to simple demands of being pulled from their demo lists if they don't do it). It's been the way of Radio since it's inception. It's why I prefer to listen to fan-created internet radio stations and surf Youtube randomly for whichever music genre I'm interested in listening to at the moment. Just because a band is unplayed/unknown doesn't mean a band is bad, just that the studios decided to put their money behind something more mainstream.

Exactly. There's so much music to explore in so many genres, and though you might have to weed through some stuff that's unappealing, that doesn't mean that everything as whole is terrible.

not everything but the majority of styles etc

I base songs on being good based on their tune + story/ lyrics
if they have no story in them i dislike them.

Which is why i hate instrumentals most of the time

I don't think that it's getting worse. It's not like Metal for example was better in the 70's but the bad and medicore Metal of the 70's isn't around anymore. Normally only the good stuff is still popular decades later.
It's the same for movies or Animes.

excuse me but saying that instrumentals dont have story in them means you're saying that about the soundtracks in movies/animes/etc.
i'm sure as hell i won't feel the same intensity of emotions if the animes i watch didn't have their soundtracks in them. but whatever floats your boat m8.

this is out of topic but AnoHana's Last Train Home is an instrumental that makes you feel feels, even if you haven't watched the anime yet.
