Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers-
Crunchyroll had it advertised as the new coming of anime with unusually Aztec setting and sheet.
I have never seen a worse cliffhanger since Halo 2 ending.

Worth it for Fremy, IMO, but I could dispense with the rest.

I'd say Kiznavier was the most overhyped series of the year.

Kiznavier, ugh the main character killed it for me, has the personality like that of paint drying, there is nothing there.
Anyone else notice how the storyline tries to rip off the feeling you get from Deadman Wonderland?

I still haven't even watched one punch man seems like your standard over hyped action anime show. Honestly the only reason why I watched the first episode was cause of the hype. I'll probably force myself to watch it someday though.

I don't even really give in to the hype of the community anymore, I just get hyped for things that I want to get hype for...

Right now it's Re:ZERO. I mean it's all right but it;'s not that good. People are talking about it like it's genius or something when really it's only popular because it has gore and makes people feel more grown up watching anime. First ending theme is one of my favourite ever anime soundtrack songs though but the show itself is kind of a boring take on groundhog day filled with gore to hide the fact it has some weak writing all these light novel adaptations are the same.

Ones that did live up to the hype for me were Steins;Gate and Psycho Pass. Both people were raving around for ages before I got around to watching them ended up binge watching both shows. Psycho Pass Season 2 was a bit of a let down though as was the movie.

Deadman Wonderland amusingly was one of the most overhyped anime of it's year XD. While Kiznaiver dealt with human relationships and empathy Deadman Wonderland was "Look! We showed you some blood! Be amazed by all this gore! Now we'll chop up some people and remove an eye! Look how edgy we are!"

What's an anime that was over hyped and completely ruined the series for you? How about an anime that was over hyped but it lived up to the hype?

For me:

Anime ruined by Over Hype: One Punch Man , just wasn't as good as everyone made it out to be. Positive I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't heard much about it.

Anime that lived up to the Hype: Haikyuu, The only volleyball I care to watch is womens, no need to explain why. Plus I'm a huge basketball fan and no matter how much I heard about Haikyuu there was no way I though I would like it anywhere near as much as Kuroko no Basket. Turns out i love them both, and eagerly waiting for season 3 of Haikyuu and Kuroko's extra game movie.

Something I sort of hate about this post and other comments that are similar is the bit about ruining anime due to over hype. I get it, and anime is overhyped. You think it gets more credit than it deserves. But how does that ruin the show? It doesn't. That bit is in your head. The anime itself is its own entity. It doesn't know it's getting overhyped, and neither would you if you weren't browsing the forums. It's kind of a ridiculous concept, because there are people who will actually like shows less because they expect that their own thoughts will be on par with the rest of the community's. The "this isn't as good as they said it was, fuck the hype and fuck this show!" mentality is a real one among fans and it's pretty silly. Anyway, this is why I think anime is best caught randomly on tv if you have the opportunity. Instead of being swayed by reviews, videogame/movie style.

People are arguing about what's overhyped and what's not overhyped without even a clear definition. An extremely arbitrary topic that goes nowhere lol.

Okay, maybe the OP is a bit off on what they say and mean. To that extent, an "over-hyped anime" is a show that a bunch of people talk about it being "so super awesome" while it is getting mega coverage in the anime media circuits. It gets to the point where the popularity overgrows the actual product.

However, over-hyped shows do not ruin themselves. It is a matter that people's own expectations exceed what the show can deliver based on the surrounding excitement for said show. Take for example my earlier mention of Kiznaviar: this site -Crunchyroll- spam blasted advertisement and publicity for that show. The plot line 'sounded' interesting enough that although it was a show originally not interested in, many found their way to watching the first episode just because of that hyped up coverage. But for all that coverage, the show was a mediocre mess with weird animations, a moshed mix of comedy with seriousness, and characters who had less character than a bag of dirt. At the same time in the same season, ERASED released with relatively low coverage or hype appeal. Yet that show had more depth of character, story cohesiveness, and overall entertainment value in one episode than Kiz ever presented in its entire season.

This season there seems to be shows that Crunchyroll hypes up more than others that are kind of....not as good as those others.

~ReWrite has shown to be a bit better than Mob Psycho 100.

~The Outcast a bit better than Berserk.

~Alderamin on the Sky a great one passed up by the likes of Re:ZERO.

~Orange gets overlooked for something like NEW GAME.

So first of all no one made you read this post nor were you required to comment. It seems like you think there's only one way for shows to be over hyped, which is nonsense. Simply by watching people I normally do on YouTube or someone live streaming on Twitch, even Twitter. So many different outlets people have. You're too hung up on the word ruin, OPM isn't a bad show but for how great it was said to be after watching it once I have no desire whatsoever to watch it again. I can define that as ruined. And don't take half of what I said and combine it with something else trying to put me in a group that i clearly don't belong to..

This is all people's opinions which they are allowed to have. You obviously don't agree, good for you. So feel free to keep your attitude to yourself and just stay out of this thread

I really didn't feel this show was needed. The first two were more than enough. I would have rather seen a prequel or sequel.
