Right now it's Re:ZERO. I mean it's all right but it;'s not that good. People are talking about it like it's genius or something when really it's only popular because it has gore and makes people feel more grown up watching anime. First ending theme is one of my favourite ever anime soundtrack songs though but the show itself is kind of a boring take on groundhog day filled with gore to hide the fact it has some weak writing all these light novel adaptations are the same.

Ones that did live up to the hype for me were Steins;Gate and Psycho Pass. Both people were raving around for ages before I got around to watching them ended up binge watching both shows. Psycho Pass Season 2 was a bit of a let down though as was the movie.

Ah, don't twist people's worlds. Personally, I said fun. Like a carnival ride -- fun. That thread for the show is so entrenched in arguments and side philosophies that I don't see how you got genius as what most people felt or thought. Opinions are all over the place. Maybe you are thinking from some other discussion place?

Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers-
Crunchyroll had it advertised as the new coming of anime with unusually Aztec setting and sheet.
I have never seen a worse cliffhanger since Halo 2 ending.

That show still pi**** me off.

I LOVED the Aztec atmosphere, and that was really about it. I was hoping they would go into South American lore. But, nope, they just played Scoobie Doo for a bajillion episodes.

I really didn't feel this show was needed. The first two were more than enough. I would have rather seen a prequel or sequel.

First two? They kinda blew in my opinion if we're talking the UBW movie and the 2006 version.

Something I sort of hate about this post and other comments that are similar is the bit about ruining anime due to over hype. I get it, and anime is overhyped. You think it gets more credit than it deserves. But how does that ruin the show? It doesn't. That bit is in your head. The anime itself is its own entity. It doesn't know it's getting overhyped, and neither would you if you weren't browsing the forums. It's kind of a ridiculous concept, because there are people who will actually like shows less because they expect that their own thoughts will be on par with the rest of the community's. The "this isn't as good as they said it was, fuck the hype and fuck this show!" mentality is a real one among fans and it's pretty silly. Anyway, this is why I think anime is best caught randomly on tv if you have the opportunity. Instead of being swayed by reviews, videogame/movie style.

People are arguing about what's overhyped and what's not overhyped without even a clear definition. An extremely arbitrary topic that goes nowhere lol.

Uhhm, telling people to stay away from the forums and watch TV instead in a forum of an anime streaming website is a little bit strange. Saying that it's ridiculous to be disappointed in something because almost everybody told you how awesome it is and it turned out it wasn't is a little bit strange too. I mean when everybody tells you how extraordinary delicious the food at this new restaurant is but when you eat there you recognize that the food is average at best wouldn't you be disappointed too?

I meant first two being Fate Stay Night and Fate Zero. So when I saw UBW, it became very informationally and story-wise very repetitive.

Fate/Zero is a prequel, so it doesn't take away from the the original 2004 novel, but the 2006 version is not really an "accurate" portrayal of what made the VN highly lauded, in particular the last two routes, UBW and Heaven's Feel. Even so, the VN is pretty crummy in its differing portrayal of Saber in her own route and other routes versus Fate/Zero and how it builds relationships between Shirou and Saber and Rin.

My hatred in general stems from the trend of various stories, which includes Fate Stay Night and sadly Avatar, in which storytellers eschew practicality for idealism, which isn't a bad idea, but if done incorrectly seems wishy washy, convenient, or downright imbecilic. This is particularly evident when you compare Fate/Zero and Fate Stay Night and I am sick of it.

I rarely consider hype when I'm watching a show. Hundreds, if not thousands, of anime get called greatest, best or even worst anime, etc. For those, I don't directly interpret the comments. Instead, the comments translate to "I really enjoyed that show" to my head. A show that resonates with a person doesn't mean it would resonate with me or others. It helps that I avoid digging into previews or anticipation threads. I also never read reviews until after I finish a series.

This season I was considerably hyped for only two shows: Shokugeki no Soma and JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. I'm hyped because I greatly enjoyed the previous seasons and not because of someone else's comments. Every other show, I knew practically nothing before watching them. I prefer to discover for myself if a show is amazing or if its a big mess. Other cases where I get hyped is when I'm familiar with the source material (such as last year's Prison School).

2015-July 2016

Overhyped:

This Season:

RE: Zero: Blood + Sex =/= mature. I have so many issues with this show from how it took him two deaths to realize he was in a loop despite being able to figure out the alternative world in less than two seconds, to how Rem bushing when he mentioned a date the first time and getting a blush despite in an alternative timeline having to explain what one was to Emilia.

ReLIFE: Way to much otaku-bait. Would have made more sense to put him back into university setting than putting him back into high-school. He would have been interacting with people his age as well as other people who would be of similar age in his workplace setting. There are other issues such as how that product would revolutionize the beauty industry, but the organization doesn't even work based on its own logic as putting NEETs back to work.

Rewrite: One episode per girl, then they forgot about the last girl. Not sure if this is bad because of being rushed or the VN was bad or a combination.

Shokugeki no Souma: Ni no Sara: The tournament easily should have been a top 4 as it's getting extremely repetitive on episode five and it doesn't help when the matches are extremely obvious who is going to win and how. Many of the battles have been one episode which makes it get repetitive faster as battles are over each week only to repeat the entire process again. Last season battles were 1.5+ episodes and carried a lot more weight to them.

Past Seasons:

Charlotte: Still not sure if I'm glad I got to see one of the biggest train wrecks in years or sad that I wasted time watching this.

Gakkou Gurashi!: The moe and horror made for a terrible balanced although the OP had a lot of detail put in.

Gate: This could have been like black lagoon instead it got destroyed by moe-blob girls.

Kiznaiver: A bad Kokoro Connect. At least in Kokoro Connect they had been long time friends and thus had a real desire to stay together. As well the shipping that the show did at the end for the sake of drama didn't go unnoticed.

Plastic Memories: A bad Chobits which is a bad adaptation of the Chobits manga which is a bad Time of Eve. Should have dropped this show when it shot itself in the foot in the last thirty seconds of first episode. They had a great tone going for it to cap off the episode and instead of ending on a bitter note they throw in a urination joke because those are always funny right.

Not Overhyped:

Death Parade
Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans
Haikyuu 2

The Fate series...Whenever I try to watch another episode of any of them, I have to literally force my eyes to stay open...

They are by no means terrible, but I read so much good stuff about them that I am quite a bit let down

I don't see what hype has to do with you enjoying something or not. When you watch it, you either like it or you don't.

agree, its all personal opinion if one was let down all the way or not. I don't let any hype or un hype affect my watch if its premise catches my interest. if something is hype but you found it really good but not great means it was hype for a reason. If its hype but horrible then yeah. I feel people run away from hyped anime just to be cool...or something lol

Compelling counter-argument.
