for about 30 minutes before Re:Zero was going to be released I figured I would catch up on food wars. it was horrendous. i went to SD format right away and it was just a skipping mess. Immediately I thought someone is taking my bandwidth. so after checking to see what was downloading ( no pr0n at the time ) I went to other streaming sites to see if their was a quality issue. Netflix and Hulu had no problems at 1080p on movies and shows. skipping to the middle and see if it needed to buffer on either of those situations and they ran fine. My conclusions is that Re Zero release times are either a chance for crunchyroll to prepare for the huge amount of influx of streamers or that crunchyroll is not prepared for such a thing. maybe i should just watch the shows i really want to see on less peak hours.

its just a bad experiaance. wanted others feedback and a place to vent this frustration. happy watching everyone. this is still a great place to watch good anime and dramas.

I've moved this over to the Suggestions Feedback Forum.

I haven't yet watched today's Re: Zero, but I do recall that when I watched it on Roku last week shortly after it become available it seemed lower quality than I usually see from CR. I usually watch it later in the day so I figured it might be that the HD upload for Roku hadn't happened yet, and if I'd just waited a bit longer maybe I would have had better results, but I honestly don't know much about how that works.

It's called server over load, to many connections and Hulu, Amazon have server farms as well as much more cash flow! CR has close to 1 million subscribers and who knows how many viewers who do not. If they all tune in at the same time server over load going to happen with a niche site.

I also very much doubt those two services have a large percentage of people waiting to jump on a title within minutes of when it is posted. Even if Hulu posts episodes of a specific series at a specific time, most people probably couldn't tell you anything other than what day they are posted.

No doubt with a much smaller library and specific release schedules, CR's traffic is a lot more "spikey" than Hulu's and especially Amazon's ever are.

Well I have had the same issue here as the first poster, Funimation used to hide server issues by requesting info like service provider and interweb speeds. When folks would be very clear about being able to steam from You Tube, And Hulu in high definition with out issues. Clearly pointing to server and programming issues with the site. To be fair though now that Funimation uses out side services like Hulu to stream they have improved much. Though its rare here at CR and the site is pretty well maintained. That's why I have a subscription here and not with Funimation. Though I still pick up hard copies of Funimations titles.
