Because it still doesn't exist, I'll make the thread.

-----------------------------------
Hey peeps, I'm mrmariokartguy in-game. Been playing since I bought in with the Gremyashchy (the only beta ship that won't be sold again). Took a lengthy break in between, but I've been active for a long while now. I'm a regular lurker on the subreddit and the Discord (link in the sub), and will occasionally upload clips of ships.

I'm a fairly decent player, though I've stagnated for a while:

I can't play consistently good, so I'm stuck here. I certainly can be better than why my stats say, but it always gets offset by the shit runs I get myself into.

I've only worked up to tier 8 with the Amagi and the Fubuki. However, with the recent nerfs to IJN DDs I've swtiched my focus to the Amagi, that is if I can ever get a decent win on it.

My best ship is the Fuso, and I'm consistently ranked on the damage leaderboards with it. Currently sit on 81k average damage on Fuso.

-----------------------------------
There are quite a few of good WoWS YouTube channels out there for all kinds of needs.

iChase and Notser are good for searching up educational vids. They are great if you want to learn more about the game and its mechanics.

For those interested in watching an old sailor play virtual ships, go for The Mighty Jingles. He may not be the best player around, but he never fails to be entertaining.

High-class gameplay can be found at Aerroon and Flamu. Both are really good at ships, and can make the worst ships look fantastic. Flamu is insanely good at the game.

For entertainment, I highly recommend atsf and Arlios. Both make wonderfully entertaining videos and I highly recommend you go watch them.

I played a lot on closed beta, but I've been away all year in China so haven't been able to play >_<

I'll have a new pc built by wednesday so will be getting back on soon enough though! Do you play on EU or NA server by the way? I've got a few premium ships and did well on beta w/ dds so we'll see.
Would be fun to play if you're on EU, can help me get back into the swing of things!

I main NA server :/

I have EU and ASIA server accounts as well, but I don't play them much.

China have a pretty neat server too, but it's hosted by a different company and they get completely different things from the rest of us.

Yeah, I played a bit in net cafes in China! I just got back from living and working there for a year... You have to use a chinese id card number to get on though :/
World of tanks is really different there too, you rent premium tanks instead of buying them, the type 59 makes up roughly 60% of everything at tier 8, and Chinese tanks (they love patriotism, basically no one plays japan) are buffed above everything else haha

Yeah, WoT NA also added rentals in, but it's not as open as renting out Type 59s :D

I've heard about the Chinese ID card stuff, not sure if there's a way to circumvent it or not.

Ah that's cool. I'm looking forward to finally playing WoWs again later this week, last box of computer parts arrive today

The ID is basically to enforce a law that means anyone under 18 years old is limited to playing no more than three hours a day on online games haha. Plus the Chinese government does rather like to keep track of things! Though most of the time they don't actually look up the id number in a database, it just has to be the right format - area code, date of birth, then 4 random digits and a checksum.
Made myself one to play haha xD

The German battleships are out!

Royal Navy cruisers will be the next line out, may be out by end on 2016.

Scharnhorst looks like such a laugh xD

I'll see... If I do find the need to buy something premium (aside from the Atago I got waaaaaaay back) I might consider spending it on a Rhm. Scorpion in World of Tanks... Plus if the HMS Belfast is the tier 8 prem as I've heard rumoured that might be worth a look

I'm excited for the RN Cruisers though, might get me playing more than one or two games a day... :/ Same goes for Wot tbh, having trouble staying interested in either game atm.

Ah world of warships. The game where every battleship thinks " damn the torpedoes full speed ahead". Where the destroyers think popping their smoke screen actually saves them. And where the aircraft carriers laugh at everyone cause they make the artillery in world of tanks look underpowered.

I use to love this game, played nothing but destroyers, Japanese ones. Can put more fish in the water that way. Then I realised I could slaughter battleships and grew bored. Still play from time to time though.

I would love a game where battleships actually make a push. The current meta is battleships cowering in the back hiding with their massive armor and health pool. Nobody really trusts each other, and some games pan out to be major campfests. Japanese destroyers have been nerfed severely a few patches ago, now they sit in a delicate place. American smokescreens are very strong, where you can stop in smoke for 2 minutes and fire away without being detected. Aircraft carriers have been the most nerfed out of all classes, with ship AA getting stronger and stronger and carriers not getting the necessary support they need.

That's exactly it :/

Though I believe they're trying to change that, I know the next update will bring more xp for spotting damage and potential damage received. I think it'll take more to coax sleepy BB drivers out of their shells but we'll see -,-

I bit the bullet and bought the Scharnhorst about a week ago - best decision I've made in this game! Small caliber main armament makes you play smarter, perhaps more like a BB should... 350mm of belt armour + 20s reload + Speed + Torps + Free Nurnburg glued to the top is great fun when closing the distance. It's a little extreme for sure but to get AP to work you need to be under say 12km, and getting within 6km leads to amazing damage from secondaries (like I said, free nurburg) and metal fishes

We'll see. I'm pooling free xp to have a play with the British CVs, though apparently the devs are having some trouble balancing them...

Ya know those battleship are actually playing the way actual battleships fought in World War 2. Battleship were never ships that were meant to advance but rather support destroyers and frigates with main battery fire from besides the aircraft carrier that was the heart of any fleet. The problem with most world of warships players is they think Battleships should play the same role heavy tanks did in World of tanks . Indeed even a cursory study of how Naval tactics and strategy worked in World War 2 would help every single player of World of Warships.

And you know what I think about smoke screens. It tells me exactly where the enemy is and if I launch a wide spread of fish from my Destroyer I am more likely then not to score damage if not an outright kill.

meh, real life tactic doesn't really work out in the game. Crossing the T will get you killed instantly.

And yeah, smoke is a torpedo magnet. I've been on the sending and receiving end of torps into smoke.
