As I was listening to minutemen's album double nickels on the dime, I was desperately trying to get into the album, but I found that I was forcing myself and that the album was boring me. And when I look into it, I wonder why exactly I don't like the minutemen. They are skilled musicians and the songs themselves are great. They even emulate Gang of four, a group that the minutemen were obviously influenced by and a band that I personally love.

So, the question was: Why wasn't I getting into this band? What aspect is turning me off? Why can I like other bands with a similar style but not this band? Would there be any change that would make me like this group or am I stuck not liking them?

I have also experienced the same kind of conundrum with bands such as ween and blur. Has anyone else been in this kind of situation? If you have, what bands or artists did you have trouble liking and list below if your opinion on the group ever changed?

I find it hard to get into a group without a consistent sound, aka ween. Also, it is hard for me to get into groups with a lot of pop sensibility like blur. Some pop stylings in music I like, but too much turns me off. Also, their first album was so good but their other albums just didn't match it. Maybe it is because blur's lyrics and music take a lot from british society and I just don't get it because I'm American. P.S I'm joking. I don't know when that would ever be the case.

This has absolutely happened to me, and it has always boiled down to me not liking the lead singer's vocals. I know it's terrible, but for the longest time I just could not get into Led Zeppelin, or the Rolling Stones at all. Of course, that changed over time. But there are still some bands who's musicianship is fantastic, but I cannot get past the vocals. Rush, for instance.
