Chimeras are a growing area of research. Currently, researchers use them to study early embryonic development and create animal models of human diseases. But one major future goal is to engineer animals to grow human organs. They could later be harvested from the adult animal and used for transplantation into a patient.

The research was shut down, in the first place, for ethics and animal rights. To me, it's just not right to give life to something to be used as nothing other than an organ farm.

BUT...it can be used for other things and my curiosity as a "man of science" comes before my feelings. So...I want to see what they can do.

When you can create life from nothing is it honestly that precious though? I understand what your'e saying & I am glad your interest is in the good that it can potentially do. & I agree it is cruel in an objective Disney perspective - but nature isn't that way. Nature is cruel; life dies in general regardless...so that's why it is just hard for me to let ethics hinder progress.

Animal's rights are a bit different & I find it a bit unfair to compare - animal farms leave animals alive in crappy conditions for years. I am not quite sure how long a chimera would take to grow an organ, but not years. While we are on growing things - give it 20 more years and we should be able to just grow meat from cells in a lab. No need for a butcher, a living animal, and no nasty chemicals because it is pure meat https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/lab-grown-meat-is-in-your-future-and-it-may-be-healthier-than-the-real-stuff/2016/05/02/aa893f34-e630-11e5-a6f3-21ccdbc5f74e_story.html

Nothing was really shut down though. They just put a temporary limit before rules could be decided. They made some very broad but very smart rules that will ensure catgirls will never become a reality. After all, we will be growing human parts in animals, not animal parts in humans. And it's a lot easier to make a catgirl if you start with a human rather than a cat.

But it's okay to give life to millions of animals to be used as nothing more than livestock?

Livestock are "domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food, fiber, and labor." So yeah...pretty much all farm animals are livestock.

That said....I am fully against factory farming.

For years this has been literally the first thing I think of when I hear the word "chimera"
