Ride on the sidewalk.

That's illegal in places.

Why is that illegal?

She's called Matilda.

You named the bike? Mine don't have names. I've been thinking of getting a basket but I'm not sure about wicker ones.

Wellll... She's a Pashley Princess, so she came with her basket... Which given what those bikes cost, is just as well.

No idea, but my township and two of the three towns nearby prohibit bicycles, skateboards, and roller skates/inline skates on city sidewalks.

I think bicycles are prohibited on single-use sidewalks; however the enforcement is lax. The problem with bicycles - specifically, inter-city bicycles meant for daily commuting, is that they need hard-packed or paved roads. If the city itself is not supportive of bicycles as an alternative method of transportation, there is little motivation to get one. That's why so many people buy a bicycle only to let it gather dust. Shared-use pathways, dedicated bicycle lanes; they are necessary to promote the use of bicycles beyond your college student or dedicated cyclist. There is also the impression by adults in certain developed societies that bicycles are for children and hence there is perceived shame in their use.

Which is stupid.

Europe seems to be a lot more receptive to bicycles, especially the Netherlands, which not only have dedicated bike lanes but I think it's the law to build bicycle lanes alongside roads.

All I know is that riding a bicycle is one of the activities that can make you feel free. Kind of like skiing or swimming or jogging. And that feeling is priceless.

I have one of these folding electric bikes I take on the road with me. I work corporate events and when I need to drive the big semi truck with AV equipment, I will often need to park the truck far away from the venue. This makes getting around much easier. It is a pedal assist and will hum along at 13 mph.

I have two.

I used to. Now we have two bikes at home: a mountain bike for my brother and a normal bike for my sister. My parents bought it when I was in university (away from home) so I don't have one
