I got permission from Mauz a long time to make this thread, but I've been putting it off. I searched to see if it had been made in my absence, but doesn't seem like such in the index. Sorry if it's not right.

"What I learned from the internet"
Bascially make a list of the things you have observed on the internet, the unspoken rules, languages, traditions and(I'll update this to explain more. Short on time)

It's partly satirical. Have fun and keep it clean.

1. The individual is smart. The masses are ever dumb..
Perhaps one of the most hallmark phrases coined on the internet is the 'intelligence of the masses' which states simply: Add up all the collective knowledge of the individuals who are not experts, and you will in turn have the combined knowledge of the expert. Well, I'm here to tell you today.
The masses are fucking cows. This applies to real life too. The individual on his own is five times smarter than in a crowd. This is why the words of the one will move the masses.

2. There is no such thing as winning an argument online, only winning approval.
On the internet, you will never win an argument conclusively. Chances are, that person will always believe he is right, and his opinion will stay in that little text box for the rest of existence. The rule of thumb of arguing online? Your victory comes in the form of looking less dumb than the other guy.

3. God is dead, and people online want it that way.
Seriously, opening a pro-religion thread is like opening an atheist convention. I don' know what it is, but atheists are the most outspoken and least tolerant people online. irony = atheists are more religious about anti-religion then the religous themselves.

4. an unspoken rule of the internet. If u typ lke dis, then yor n idiot.
For some reason, there are some people who like to speak in what has (un)affectionately been dubbed Cellphone speak.I have to agree at some point, stop being lazy and just type out what your trying to say. Cellphone talk reduces the intellectual punch of your words down to a baby's. I mean look
www.mozilla.com
There's a web-browser there with built in spell check to help, free of charge.

5. While we're on that subject... Grammar is a perfectly (stupid) reason to be a self-superior ass.
In my opinion, if you can understand it without a lot of thought, then it's good.

6. Every person is a story.
People are amazing. There is so many stories that everyone has. Just talk to random people and you'll know what I mean.

7. 12-14 year old people try to act like they are older and mature... they're not, and thats why they fail
The best young people online, are the people who understand they're young. This goes for everyone, know your limit.

8. Everyone loves lists.

9. The internet is a political force. Never forget about it.

10. In the forum scene, you can post a thread about the problems facing your race and it's accomplishments... unless your white. Thats a no no.
I might have to try that after this..

11. Never predict the internet. It will ruin your prediction just to spite you.

12. Using wikipedia as a source is dangerous.
This is because the articles are written by people who aren't actually experts, and many times there is no citation.

I will continue to add to this, so add some listings of your own. ^^ What has the internet taught you?

-Emoticons can save your ass
-In a discussion, females sometimes let themselves be corrected by men, never by other females. An online argument between two women never ends.
-People might type like this as long as they're calm, but as soon as they feel offended they'll start writing "ghetto".
-Bitchy people tend to use the abbreviation "kthx".

Well that's new. I'm usually at fault when it comes down to "arguments" over the internet. I'm at fault usually because not everyone is open-minded. not everyone can accept others opinions, and not everyone can listen to reasoning.

Everyone just ramble on what they feel is right no matter what because it's the LOLinternet. Right, nothing should be taking serious, but at least be a bit more civilized, right?

I agree with most of what you say, I guess... but the only thing I'm kind of iffy about is the Wikipedia being so dangerous to use. I often found my self using this particular resource for basic research to write papers. I never used it any further then just basic facts and info, but it was very helpful. I would like to add on this if you approve of it...

13. Guy's don't post treads asking about relationship problems or how to get the girl of your dreams. The way I see it is your needing to ask these question's most likely your a nerd. A nerds only skill in getting the girl of his dreams or even a pretty decent girl is to work harder at being a nerd and make tons of money. Some people can't help it, but too be nerds... Your just born that way. Most likely you got it from your parents. Also every girl is different and she will always react different from the other girls, don't ask me why... They just do! Well, I'm gonna leave it at this... Its already to long!

The problem with Wikipedia is it contains thousands of errors. It's good for personal research, but it has to be taken with a grain of salt.

I agree and disagree with some of that list; however, I have to say in my opinion 4 and 7 seem to be fact.
