I've lately been watching Fairy Tail as I'd fallen off the wagon during season 4 and figured I ought to get through it. However after marathon after marathon I'm feeling burnt out and I need something simple and sweet so I figured I'd take a break with some slice of life. After looking around for hours for something I hadn't seen before that seemed really stand-out I've settled on Hanasaku Iroha.

But there must be an easier way; so for next time I need a pick-me-up anime I've decided I'd ask: what's your favorite slice of life anime in recent years? Mine would have to be Silver Spoon, high school life with a twist, beautiful, great characters, grounded but still comedic, there's some feels in there and the drama is real and not cliche and contrived.

So what about you?

tl,dr: Silver Spoon, your turn.

Hands down for me, it would be Barakamon. 12 episodes of pure bliss. I became so sucked into the show, that by the end I felt like I was living in the anime. ..That probably sounds weird! But in any case, I loved it and will re-watch it soon.

It's too tough to pick just one from Barakamon, Non Non Biyori, and Sweetness and Lightning.

A good choice and I love the ED for the 2nd season.

Also good choices and I agree completely with these. I would add Usagi Drop, http://www.crunchyroll.com/usagi-drop but I understand to not read the manga. Flying Witch http://www.crunchyroll.com/flying-witch which is very SoL despite the supernatural twist. And for a SoL romance I'd recommend Kimi Ni Todoke http://www.crunchyroll.com/kimi-ni-todoke-from-me-to-you as the female MC is so sweet and innocent she deserves a lot of good things in her life.

Croisée in a Foreign Labyrinth: The worlds of France and Japan uniting to make a quaint fish out of water tale.
Kokoro Connect: A typical high school setting but changes with different story elements and complex character developments.

Oh one other I would recommend is New Game! http://www.crunchyroll.com/new-game It is a very enjoyable and mellow SoL show about working for a game company. Which reminds me of Shirobako http://www.crunchyroll.com/shirobako A SoL anime about making anime. It too is very enjoyable, but not as mellow as some shows.

Aoi from Shirobako

Ah, good one to bring up. I didn't even think to mention it.

Should we include Nozaki-kun, too?

I can't possibly choose just one. But to prevent this post from being a never-ending paragraph of text I shall close my eyes and choose one.

MY love STORY!!. I approve of this.

Barakamon. No other slice of life series has been so heartwarming that it brought me to tears.

I love SoL shows and, as many others have already commented, it's really hard to pick just one. That said, Non Non Biyori to me is one of the purest forms of slice of life in recent years. A show about nothing and with no real substance plot-wise. Just a bunch of kids playing around every week with no real consequences. And that's totally OK.

Favourite would be Shirobako though, if nothing else than for how it helps me to appreciate more the anime I watch.
