Sib (solid state) was about to reach out to take a book down from one of the shelves but she was directed to an area of the library that had books that had multiple copies, the books looked old but not out of date. Sib picked up a book about elves and sat down Japanese style, a few steps away from where she got the book from, she opened the book and she began to read. Sib relaxed her lower body while she focused on her upper body so that she could turn the pages with ease.

The keyboard on Irene's phone slid closed as she opened the door to the library. Steeping inside, she put the device in her pocket as per the common courtesy of being in a library. The library wasn't a place she usually went, so Irene had to take a moment to look around for the section she wanted. Once she had found it, she walked in its direction. There, she found one of her main reasons for attending the school. Sitting - or standing; she didn't know what to label the action - was what could only be a monster. It was female in form, blue, partially see-through, and seemed to be only be solid on some places. Irene's mind connected the girl - choosing the word as it seemed more accurate and respectful than "creature" - to what she had read about slimes in a bestiary. It was her best guess as to what the girl was. Irene went to a shelf that was a close but respectful distance from the girl and started looking at, but not reading the titles of, the books. Her focus was on figuring out how to start an interaction with the girl. She supposed that it would lead to a making a friend at best, and be interesting at least.

Sib turned another page of the book, she kept reading her eyes fixated on the words, she saw an art work of a side shot of a famous elven elder, Sib let go of the page and touched her ear it had a point just like the picture of the elf "So it was an elf" Sib muttered to herself as moved her hand back to the book to turn another page.
(Sib is referring to the traveller)

Irene heard the slime's words and took them into account. Reading about elves? She scanned the titles of the books, skipping over any that seemed like they might be about elves. She thought it might seem too obvious that she was trying to get a conversation started if she had a book on the same topic in her hand. After a casual glance over her shoulder, Irene had decided on her approach. She selected a random book from the shelf, and, looking down to find that it was a book on the history between humans and the various other species of people, walked to a chair fairly close to the slime. "Mind if I sit here?" she asked politely. She had picked the chair not only for its proximity to the slime, but also for the light that fell almost-perfectly upon it. It would be ideal for reading, though she didn't plan to do much reading, and it gave her an excuse to be near her target of conversation. Her question served to make herself known to the girl. Granted, a conversation would still have to be stuck up, but at least the setup would be complete once she sat down.

Sib stopped reading and looked at the girl "Sib does not mind" she pointed at the book that the girl was reading "Sib wants to read that when you are finished" Sib's eyes traced the book the girl was holding she had nearly forgotten about the book she was still holding, but she was reminded by the feeling of the book still in her hands "Sib forgot she still has a book" she went back to reading the book.

Irene sat down, and gave an "Okay." when the slime - or Sib, so it it seemed - stated her intentions toward the book. Irene didn't have any interest in it herself, so she didn't mind at all handing it off. It even saved her having to put it back. She suppressed a grin while she opened the book to a random page and pretended to read it. The slime was more interesting than Irene had actually expected her to be. She referred to herself in the third person and seemed a bit forgetful. Irene didn't want to be presumptuous, but she wondered if all slimes were like that. She imagined that it was just how Sib was, but she had no point of reference. After a few minutes of actually reading the book on her lap, Irene looked at Sib. "What are you reading?" She figured that the question was valid, since Sib had already asked for her book. It only made sense to be interested as to what she was reading.

Sib looked at the girl confused for a couple of seconds and then realised what she meant, she half closed the book and looked at the title on the book "History of the elves" Sib then reopened the book and continued reading, she stopped reading and looked at the girl, the book was open on the current page "Sib would like to know your name" Sib tilted her head as she waited for her response.

Irene was surprised that Sib asked for her name. The tilt of the girl's head reminded Irene of something a small child might do. But if she was reading a history book and attending school, she had to be as smart as anyone else. She supposed it was just a quirk. "My name's Irene." she answered. After a moment's consideration, she spoke again. "What's your name?" She was confident that the girl's name was Sib, but it was still polite. And if speaking in third person was something she did without thinking, Irene didn't want to unsettle her by knowing her name from seemingly nowhere.

"Irene, Sib likes that name" Sib nodded to herself as she resited Irene's name in her head "Sib's name is Sib" Sib stayed still for a moment and then pointed at the book she was reading "ah, Sib likes books, Traveller gave Sib book, although she didn't want the book back" Sib looked at herself for a moment and then shook her head "What does Irene like?"

"Thank you." A corner of Irene's mouth rose into a half-smile. "You have a nice name, too." Irene's impression of Sib began to change as she listened to the girl speak. It seemed like she could have simply walked up to the slime and just started a conversation. The planned, slow approach Irene had used suddenly felt foolish. In answer to the question she had been asked, Irene took her phone from her pocket and held it so Sib could see it. "I like electronics. Computers, gadgets - that kind of stuff." Returning her phone to her pocket, Irene found the word that felt like it applied well to her new acquaintance. In a word, she felt the girl was simple. Not dumb or empty-headed, but honest and straightforward. She didn't seem like she was putting on a facade like most people did. Irene thought it was refreshing to have found someone like that. "Do you read here a lot?" she asked, taking the initiative to continue the conversation.

Sib smiled at Irene "hehe, Sib is thankful" Sib nodded at Irene and pointed at one of the shelves "Sib reads here, Sib likes the large amount of books, Sib also likes the silence Sib finds it relaxing" Sib looked back at her book she had started to relax and the books back spin sunk into Sib's left hand, she focused her left hand and the book lifted out of Sibs hand, she then grabbed it with her other hand and put it down next to her "Book was always like that, right Irene?" Sib looked at Irene and glanced away before looking back at Irene.

Irene watched with interest as the book slid into Sib's hand, then slid back out. She wondered why that had happened. Did Sib randomly become more or less solid? She decided it was a question for another time. Irene shrugged and let her smile widen a little. "I couldn't say. I don't come here often enough." She punctuated her statement with a wink. There was no reason for her to turn Sib in for anything that might have happened to the book, so she wasn't going to do so. "Here." Irene held out the book she had taken off the shelf earlier. "You wanted to read this, right?"

Sib nodded eagerly "Sib wants to read that book...err" she stopped herself from speaking and looked at the book she had put down "Sib must put this book back first" Sib picked up the book and focused on her lower half giving her human-like legs, she stood up and walked over to the shelf and put it away, Sib then walked back to Irene and sat back down, Sib then relaxed her lower half reforming it into a semi-slime like substance, she looked relaxed and looked at Irene and then remember the book, she held out both her hands "Sib would like book please" she looked like a child that had been given a new toy.

Irene was about to extend her arm further to hand Sib the book when the slime cut off her acceptance of the book. The fact that Sib could change her shape to gain and lose usable, humanoid legs was fascinating to Irene. She wondered what, if anything, went into the process. The action also reinforced the impression of honesty that Irene was getting from Sib. When the girl returned and asked for the book, Irene held it out to her again. "Here you go." Irene thought it was a little funny how excited the girl was to receive the book, but she admitted to herself that she often got that excited when she got an upgrade to her computer or made a breakthrough in her coding. When she thought about it, the only difference was that she usually did her best to keep up her facade.
