I used to just get angry seeing them do it, but Idk I actually liked ajin and the new berserk anime. I guess what I'm saying is it's good for something they can make easier (its not easy by any means) and quicker than 2D. What's your opinion on it? Is it good for the animators? Doesn't it make their lives easier?

It used to be really bad, but they've worked out most of the technical difficulties? I don't know about good or bad for the animators, but it'd probably be a lot easier for them to email the key frames to Korea and back, and that'd save time, so I guess it could make their lives easier.

Right like some of that shtty CGI I saw in school rumble. I've only seen bad stuff by cars, they can't draw good looking CGI cars. But I remember the OVA freedom and they did spectacular with their CGI. There was also appleseed which I wouldn't watch because its CGI but is it bad?

I liked Appleseed, but I'm not really overwhelmed by how 'bad' CGI is, not that Appleseed had bad CGI. I think what makes CGI stand out and look 'bad' tends to be when they mix media. Once everything becomes more or less one medium, it doesn't stick out and you don't worry about it as much.

Because you've become more open minded.

My opinion on CG is pretty neutral though.
I liked it with Ajin. Would have preferred traditional animation, but it didnt look too bad.

doesn't make a big difference to me, unless it just looks horrible and out of place. but that can be said for 2D animation as well.

I'm watching shirobako and they talked about 'melting' and this happens in 2D more than in 3. I heard it's ridiculously bad when it happens and the studio gets thought to be unprofessional, etc etc. Like DBZ Super's animation recently. Hell I say why not make DBZ super 3D and actually do it well? Then we'd be like 'it looks better than that shtty 2D rendering that third season showed.

Never watched appleseed because I didn't like CGI then, but I guess I can watch it now? And how are people who probably LIKED Final Fantasy ADVENT CHILDREN bashing on CGI? wow the idiots. Yeah they shouldn't mix CGI unless it's blended well enough (like I think they do a good job in berserk 2016 with it but that's my opinion)

it always came down to fluidity of motion. If the characters were stiff, it was disconcerting and i typically stopped watching.

Edit: compared to anime though, a lot of times they use still frames to help drag out a sequence or explanation so there is also a double standard.

Just as with regular 2D animation, it can really be good or bad. I don't have anything against 3D/CGI on principle alone and the "best" 3D/CGI can sometimes be pretty much indistinguishable from traditional 2D anyway.

The biggest problem I always have is when the two forms are mixed. In those cases even the best 3D can look bad simply because it takes a really deft hand and smart use to blend the two styles. If an anime is going to use a mix of the two styles it's almost always better to have complete 2D scenes and complete 3D scenes separate from each other rather than to mix 2D and 3D in the same scene.

Having watched both Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and Final Fantasy: Advent Children, I can say they're both beautiful movies. Square-Enix really makes great cinematics. I liked Spirits Within (meta joke), but I guess people were put off by the storyline? It really can't be the animation, because it was, I think, top notch.

Well, I didn't entirely understand advent children. I like spirits within, and really enjoyed the animation on both.
