When we moved here it was pure country. The population in our town was under 500. It became a normal thing to live with our doors unlocked. About ten years later, there was an escaped murderer on the loose locally so of course we all locked our doors. Unfortunately, we got into that habit pretty fast. It was kind of lucky too, since not much later we had a drug den open it's doors in our quiet neighborhood.

As for Non Non Biyori ... best slice of life/comedy anime EVER! IMHO, of course. Had a crush on Candy Store since the first time I saw her taking care of Renge-chan . Definite Waifu material .

I'll live in the country and I will leave the door unlocked if I'm going to be gone for a few hours. Someone does however steel my gas. I can leave money in the car, my earbuds laying out (there quite nice), my phone, anything. Even though they have to get in the car to pop the gas tank door. Nothing has ever been stolen from my car. Who ever it is is welcome to knock on the door. I'll buy them gas. I'm a nice guy. Shoot, I might not even say anything about stilling my gas as long as there honest about it.

my housemate had her doors unlocked for years during the day. thankfully nothing ever happened. she still leaves the backdoor open though T_T

my mother also leaves the doors unlocked at her house, but she lives on a random secluded mountain that even many of the old time locals don't know about. she's more concerned about bears than people actually

I mean, Japan doesn't have the crime rate that the US has, so...I can sort of see NNB leaving the doors open.

However, I don't care if I"m in the safest place on earth, I am locking up. I don't want to get robbed/killed/raped.
