I recently started watching Ghibli's works, and I've enjoyed all of them. I have not watched every single one of their movies, but I can make a top 10 if I wanted to. Anyway, what are your top 5 favorite ghibli films?

Mine would be:

1. From Up on Poppy Hill
2. The Wind Rises

3. When Marnie Was There
4. Princess Mononoke
5. Only Yesterday

I have yet to see 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya'. I'll watch it soon, though. Nice list, btw.

1. When Marnie was There - Can't get enough of that movie.Soooo human....and so easy to relate to.
2. Nausicaa, Valley of the Wind - This was the first Ghibli movie I ever saw. Technically, it isn't a Ghibli film but many of us still consider it one. I was a huuuuge fan of the manga.
3. Kiki's Delivery Service - Just loved EVERYTHING about it.
4. Laputa, Castle in the Sky - This was the second Ghibli movie I ever saw. It was soooo much eye candy but also had an amazing plot.
5. I Can Hear the Sea (Ocean Waves) - This just may have been the first romance/slice of life anime I watched when I first got into anime. It still holds a special place in my heart.

I've watched almost all of Ghibli movies. My top 5:

1. Princess Mononoke
2. The Wind Rises
3. From Up on Poppy Hill
4. Spirited Away
5. Only Yesterday

Among the films from other tops 5 above I haven't watched 'When Marnie Was There', 'The Cat Returns' and 'Ocean Waves'.

Some spoilers below:

1. Princess Mononoke -- the picture of hatred between sides that have their own truth is astonishing. Together with the successful fight with inner hatred. Pictures of the cursed god that visualize hatred are also astonishing. This is also my second anime after Paprika by Kon. So this affects the ordering I guess :)
2. The Wind Rises -- brilliant theme of following the dream and then seeing it being corrupted by war. Together with seeing that you had not payed enough attention to your love (to beloved wife and to beloved homeland) until it was too late: wife died and Japan was bombed out.
3. From Up on Poppy Hill -- cute small and very realistic love story and... Amazing Japan of fifties or sixties with all that enthusiasm and energy of the youth directed to the future (that chooses not to forget the past).
4. Spirited Away -- images, pictures and designs are mind blowing and delightful (for example the train in the water). Cute fairy tale together with touching depicting of the work: love to work, work's significance. The theme of work always enjoys me in Miyazaki movies.
5. Only Yesterday -- bright and nostalgic diving into one's past. Rethinking of the life experience. Enjoying the present and relaxing. Magical atmosphere altogeter. Very touching.
