Thought I would share cause this has never happened before, so I don't know if this is fine for GD.

Just sitting outside, I hear a small thud on the window.

It's a dam humming bird XD. Why it flew into the window I have no clue, I guess the reflection of the trees might have confused it, but I have a feeder hanging up and it always came, but never did it fly into the window before.

So I picked it up and let it recover in my hand =3 it was so delicate I was afraid to hurt it. So small and cute though. My first time actually holding one so cool. It recovered and flew away

Glad it survived. Birds fly into windows because their brains cannot process the reflection as an obstruction. Sadly millions of birds die every year because they hit into office buildings then fall to their death. There is a company out there that sells special coated window tinting that is almost invisible to humans but visible to birds, supposedly its very effective at alerting birds that they are seeing an obstruction.

Nice, I always amazed how small and fragile these little birds are. Glad that the little thing didn't suffer any injuries and flew away. Once a swallow flew into my room and landed on my bed, the poor thing was really tired, but after a little rest and lifting to the window, it flew away

Lies. He threw a rock on that bird. Picked it up and then took the picture.

Awwww, it's so pretty and tiny, and cute too. I'm really glad that it was all right because hummingbirds aren't as common as some of the rest of the birds are, especially in Northern sections of the US and Canada. And yeah, what others are saying about birds not being able to tell the difference between a reflection and something real is right. When I was growing up we had a bird feeder set up out in out front yard about five feet or so in front of one of living room windows. Birds would actually fly into our window pane on accident about once a month or so, but they were usually fine.
