Apparently, Black Clover is getting an OVA at the upcoming Jump Festa. There is no info yet on a full series but only announcement for an OVA episode so far.

Plot Summary

Asta and Yuno were abandoned together at the same church, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next Emperor Magus. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain. Yuno was a genius with magic, with amazing power and control, while Asta could not use magic at all, and tried to make up for his lack by training physically. When they received their Grimoires at age 15, Yuno got a spectacular book with a four-leaf clover (most people receive a three-leaf-clover), while Asta received nothing at all. However, when Yuno was threatened, the truth about Asta's power was revealed, he received a five-leaf clover Grimoire, a "black clover"! Now the two friends are heading out in the world, both seeking the same goal!

I just bought the first volume of the manga recently. Haven't read it yet, but i'm hoping it's not as bad as most people claim it to be.

No, most people are grouping together in a bandwagon simply because it was rated worst manga at a western event called Comic-Con. However, the rankings over in Japan speak otherwise and the story really has to show for it. The first volume isn't anything groundbreaking, mainly world building and setting up the characters. If you can get to chapter 20 though, it gets pretty kick ass from there. I'd say from Chapter 40-73, it really shines. This next arc I can't say much since it's just starting, but if Yuki can keep writing like what he did for chapters 40-73, it can only get better. The fights are done very well, nothing like Fairy Tail's fights at all. And if you read Fairy Tail, you know what I mean...

The OVA is a lot more fun than I expected. Hope the series turns out to be just as impressive because now I'm looking forward to it.

Great underdog story to me it has FMA feels to it with orphan brothers who are rivals but have a bond. I notice a lot of negative response on other sites claiming its Naruto meets fairytail hybrid? Guess we will see what happens?

OVA was okay. Nothing groundbreaking, but a great example of what we can expect from the main anime that's hitting later this year. As for

People only call it Naruto because of the MC's long term goal which is to become the Wizard King. Although honestly, the Wizard King is just the leader of the Magic Knights; the actual King of their kingdom is someone else entirely. Let's also not forget that Naruto wanted to become Hokage to be recognized; Asta (the MC of Black Clover) wants to become the Wizard King to get rid of discrimination. As for Fairy Tail, this is Fairy Tail if it was done correctly. Maybe you've heard that phrase somewhere, but it's completely true in my opinion. Fights aren't half assed, ass pulls are next to none, and the series heavily utilizes teamwork in a brilliant way. Now, is the story absolutely amazing and what everyone should be talking about? No, of course not. This is your standard, pure Shonen battle manga. However, I think it's quite an enjoyable one and worth checking into if you're into fantasy action series.

As someone who's personally caught up on the manga, I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. It's certainly not a horrible manga, no matter what anyone tells you.
