So the other day I went to a books-a-million and bought some manga I been looking forward to. While I was there I picked up the first 3 volumes of a series that I've never read before or watched the anime.

So far I have fallen in love with this series. According to Misty/Chronexia this is a more mature story. Reading the story so far is just amazing. The characters are well done, the scene, setting, hell even the wording is amazing.

So I was curious if anyone else has either read Spice & Wolf or any other mature manga. And no I'm not talking about hentai... sheesh.

I've only seen the show Spice & Wolf, and as to 'mature' manga, I have read things before where people explode. Not sure it had some sort of stupid Parental Advisory, Exquisite Content though.

In a lot of shounen manga people tend to explode fairly often lol. I wouldn't call that mature necessarily.

Not a book / manga per say but try the visual novel world end economica ... its the same author its a visual novel sold on steam not too expensive if memory serves well . its a three part VN missing the third but not for long ... otherwise as a huge fan of the series i have to admit i havent found anything else quite like it but if you really like the characters and everything try the books (Light novels) i think they go much further than the manga does (not sure though i havent read the manga yet)

there is the manga called "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa, it is really good and really mature. Other works from this other also tends to be mature like "20th century boys" and "Pluto". I really suggest everyone to read is work or watch the anime adaptation.

There is also the manga called "Berserk" by Kentaro Miura. The story is really interesting and the art is just god like. This manga is pretty gore and contain some "innapropriate" contain, but they all serve the story purpose. This manga is mature, but really not for everyone, this one is really not for people who cant handle gore and Sex. Also beware of volume 13.

Going through the My Anime List site's seinen manga section, I am pretty sure I have actually read and not just seen:

Hellsing
Chobits
xxxHolic
Battle Royale
Black Lagoon
Inside Mari (Boku wa Mari no Naka)
Planetes
Arakawa Under the Bridge
Initial D
Spirit Circle
Maison Ikkoku
Bastard!!
Coppelion
GTO
Gunsmith Cats
Excel Saga
...and that's just the first four pages of MAL's list. They have approximately 16 more pages of this stuff that I'm not going to go through right now. Sadly, it reminded me of how I have seen the shows for, but not read the manga of, so many of these series.

I'm a huge Spice and Wolf fan; the original novels have all been published in English now, if you really want to dig into the series. I've never read the manga adaptation, but the dialogue in the novels is brilliant.

As for other, more mature manga I've enjoyed:

In the Josei realm, my favorite, by far, is Happy Marriage. I've also enjoyed:
Midnight Secretary
Handmade Ojiisama
Kimi wa Petto
Darling wa Namamono (and most other things by that author were at least pretty good)
Kitchen Pallet
Usagi Drop (which had a brilliant first half and dropped the ball it's second half)

There are a lot more Seinen manga I like, including (and this is a truncated list):
Ah My Goddess
Ai Yori Aoshi
Ashita Dorobou
Bonnouji
Futari no Renai Shoka
Honeymoon Salad
Orange Yane no Chiisana Ie
Servant x Service
Toshiue no hito
Umi no Misaki

Mike I suggest taking a look at the manga and tell me what you think. The dialogue is probably straight from the novels and I found it amazing! I never read a manga that the dialogue fit that era.

My favorite anime was always FREEZING, recently BAM started selling the manga in double volumes. Of course there are more mature manga than FREEZING, but the manga does have a lot of ripped clothing and nipples. Of course my new favorite is Gou-Dere Sora Nagihara, its an ecchi comedy and found inside BAM.

I tend to prefer mature series in practice rather than in label and actual mature issues. Nudity, sex, ultra-violence, and/or edgelord things don't count towards it; more like legit actual issues being addressed. ReLife for instance isn't technically "seinen" but covers several mature issues
. Basically I love actual legit mature (not adult) manga and anime, and roll my eyes when ones try to be them but fail.

Never actually seen Spice and Wolf, though I've heard great things about it and eventually do plan to get around to it (anime and manga versions)

Black Lagoon
Demonizer Zilch
DOGS Bullets & Carnage
Gangsta

I think the age ratings on Seven Seas manga only go up to 16+, so if they do, I've read a lot. So much I've lost count.

would "corpse party" be considered mature? It does not have a warning on it, but A teacher having a shelving unit full of knives tossed on her for a slow death seemed a bit mature. Also one hell of a depressing manga too, which is why I have not yet bought the second volume...Might wait until I finish "Maga Tsuki" which is a comedy.

I get the warm fuzzies every time someone talks about Spice and Wolf. Thank you for that. :)
Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Berserk, Jormungand, Beck, Mardock Scramble...... Would A Bride's Story count as mature?? I mean it's not the same kind of 'mature' as the previously mentioned ones, but still.
I genreally prefer darker stuff anyway- like the dozen or so unlicensed things I read online. XD Trash, Murcielago, Arachnid, Crime Zone...... ooo, I could go on.
