Q: What is the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement?

VHEMT (pronounced vehement) is a movement not an organization. It's a movement advanced by people who care about life on planet Earth. We're not just a bunch of misanthropes and anti-social, Malthusian misfits, taking morbid delight whenever disaster strikes humans. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Voluntary human extinction is the humanitarian alternative to human disasters.

We don't carry on about how the human race has shown itself to be a greedy, amoral parasite on the once-healthy face of this planet. That type of negativity offers no solution to the inexorable horrors which human activity is causing.

Rather, The Movement presents an encouraging alternative to the callous exploitation and wholesale destruction of Earth's ecology.

As VHEMT Volunteers know, the hopeful alternative to the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals is the voluntary extinction of one species: Homo sapiens... us.

Each time another one of us decides to not add another one of us to the burgeoning billions already squatting on this ravaged planet, another ray of hope shines through the gloom.

When every human chooses to stop breeding, Earth's biosphere will be allowed to return to its former glory, and all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution), and will perhaps pass away, as so many of Nature's "experiments" have done throughout the eons.

It's going to take all of us going.

Basically what they want is for people to stop breeding, out of their own free will and by doing so they hope it will eventually lead to the extinction of mankind.
They make a lot of good point's too, but i consider myself as "just" a supporter as i think the extinction of humanity is taking it a bit too far.

So what are your oppinions on this?

Do they have a point or are they just a bunch of crazy people?

How do you justify having a kid when the earth is clearly overpopulated? (look a bit on this http://www.vhemt.org/demography.htm#dud before you speak up... done? now look again.)

Would the earth be better off without humans?

And finally do you belive that we could just move over to another planet?

Well, I put my hands together for the people who have the willpower to attempt this, but there are always going to be people who want to have children so I don't think that this movement will work out in the end. It seems like at the most it will make a barely noticeable dent in the population, and that's if there's a fair amount of people supporting it.

Somewhere out there a geek devised this idea to give fellow geeks an excuse to why they're still virgins... lol

My opinion of this group is that they are no more than a group of eco-minded hippies that are wasting their time with a movement that is clearly not going to work.

A Point? Where is the point in this? Humans are the superior race of the earth and therefore it would bee foolish to relinquish this position after all that has happened in human history.

Population certainly is a problem however that is not to say there is no action being taken, China already has the one-pregnancy policy and there is also the factor of disease such as HIV for control on the population.

Of course the EARTH would be better off without humans, we are raping the planet's resources for all its worth. Though HUMANS would not be better off without the earth and we are the ones who are in power of that decision.

If there was the option of moving to another planet that would be great, though I don't believe we should simply leave earth for it. More so we should simply use it as a satellite of earth and build homes their as well as exhausting its resources for industry.

I think that this movement would be more sucessful if they advocated killing instead of not reproducing.

I think its funny, cute but highly innefficiant.

I think there is alot more to do than just stop reproducing.
In fact, who know, my daugther can be the one that will find the answer to global warming.
My son may be able to cue cancer.
OR they can be both hillbillies.

But i cant simply wash away my guilt of what hapening to the planet by simply saying : well im not having kids, i do my part.

I dont think that well educated person, with high speed internet acces are the person that eproduce the most anyway.

Look where we are going:

Given Reason = My child could find a way to save the world.
Real Reason = "Mother of God" complex. (Also applies to men).
Suggested Alternative = If you want something done right, do it yourself.

btw that video is true and funny :D....

this is stupid. If you believe in evolution, its our rightful place because we evolved. If you believe in conservatism, the point is to save something for yourself, not kill yourself. If you just want to help all the animals, why do you place animals over the human race. Additionally, the world is so messed up now, whatever we do won't matter, so we should just go on being happy, and ditch this movement.

I did mention they may end up as hillbillies =P
I just think that everyones life can worth something... If its a life that is wanted.
I think it was a bit to justify that making less humans is maybe not the way to make things better.
Maybe something better will happen out of making moooooore babies ^^

Actually i could go and get in this mouvement in a hypocrit way ^_~
I dont want kids. At all.
I realised over time that i didnt needed to be a mother to define myself as a woman, or a human ^_^

And yes the video is hilarious <3
as sad it is, i kinda belive in it >.<
