I prefer bass because it forms a good base to go up from. Sure you can a drummer use double bass but then it takes away from the overall feel of the music IMO.

You're joking right? please tell me you're joking. Playing the Bass is not easy and anyone who thinks it is is an ignorant fool. Go listen to Jaco Pastorious or Victor Wooten, then pick up a bass and play what they are playing. Heck pick up a bass and play something. anything at all. Without practice playing the bass is just like playing a guitar... IMPOSSIBLE. Dont ever say playing a bass is easy. I HATE when people automatically assume that playing the bass is easy. IT'S NOT. don't every assume it is. Take it from one who actually plays the bass. just because it has 4 strings does not make it easy. instead it makes it harder. learn the bass and talk to me in two years

as for me I like the bass better. the low end of the scale is more aesthetically pleasing and there are some awesome riffs that can compliment a song greatly.

I play both, but I like the bass better. And playing bass is NOT easy. Listen to Victor Wooten (favorite bassist) or Jaco Pastorious and try playing their songs. Psh. I love playing funky grooves on the bass... =]

GENERALLY bass seems more like rhythm and guitar seems to be the more "outgoing" instrument in songs cause often guitar solos just fly while bass continues. There are some crazy bass solos out there, just not as often as you hear guitar solos. It's not that bass is easier than guitar, but i prefer guitar.
