I have the player set to default to 720p because 1080p tends to hang up. On my 25 inch flat panel LCD television/monitor I really can't tell any
difference anyway.

it seems pretty douchey for a service to do something that prevents real-time buffering on people who've been fine streaming high-quality in the past without notifying their premium-users, keep in mind I can stream 4K other websites.

also I have a 1440p screen as-well.

I don't want 4K.

I'll try 720p for now, 720p paused a bit yesterday, and it would be nice if crunchyroll could legitimately give me a reason at customer support instead of bullshitting me.

literally all they're like is "have you enabled video smoothing and subtitle smoothing", I don't even think subtitle smoothing exists.

it's a simple "are servers are slow this week" crunchyroll, it's not an interrogation jeez >.>

Maybe its your internet? Slow internet can make videos (especially high detail ones) buffer as well.

I watch everything in "SD", doesn't look that bad does it?

Depends on the size screen you're watching it on and what you're used to watching otherwise. Before I started getting stuff through CR I used to torrent everything in 1080. It's quite a downgrade from that, almost to the point of cringe.

I use a 22 inch screen. I very rarely watch videos in high definition, I've got to conserve internet usage since I come from a country that has terrible internet.

Ah, I can understand that. I just can't afford good enough internet to watch things in high def, otherwise I would. Only time I ever did was back when I downloaded everything. Sometimes I miss that.

I used to only watch episodes through the site itself and I would also experience occasional pauses like some people. It's all about the crunchyroll windows 10 app. Never the slightest issue with that

I have no issue except for when a video has just been posted and even then it usually gets fixed within and hour.

I'm not trying to discount anyone's issues just saying that it seems limited to a small group.

ffs, just like 3 days ago crunchyroll randomly stopped streaming 1080p, every like 10 seconds it pauses for like 5 seconds.

I've been streaming for 1080p for quite a while, ever since I bought premium, which is when I started using crunchyroll, I didn't ever use the trial version- I went straight to premium.

I can literally go stream a 1440p or 4K video on youtube RN and I won't get any pauses.

i've contacted customer support like 3 times with no resolves.

not happy, fix your servers.

tbh my opinion on crunchyroll will still be 2000x times better than [site that shall not be named that] went down for like 2-4 weeks before like what) as long as this gets fixed soon.

e-e, Ig I'll watch some newgrounds vids..

I've moved this to the Suggestions/Feedback forum in the Help! section, since it seems to be primarily venting/feedback rather than a discussion topic.

I also edited your post to remove the name of a site that provides access to content they don't have a license for--naming such sites on CR is against the CR's site rules

A powerful pc doesn't determine streaming power. That's all based on your internet speeds. And the provider of said stream.

You can get a perfect quality stream off of a potato computer. Provided it has a fast router to be connected to via a cable. (potato pcs wireless card could be stinky though. Which is why you use a Lan cable to bypass that)

Ive had issues with streams pausing. And needing refreshes to continue watching today. But just today. Shenanigans happen. Give them a bit more than three days. If in a weeks time. Nothings changed.. And they've not publicly acknowledged the problem. Then we can scream.

I'm well aware that having a powerful PC doesn't mean anything in streaming, but lots of PCs do actually struggle to stream or simply watch videos (worse with streaming, but whatever). Yeah, I use an ethernet cable, and my internet speeds are always good. My old PC struggled to stream CR (given that the PC WAS over 8 years old). I've seen that changing the streaming route from my CPU to my GPU had better results than basing it off my CPU.

Skim, a tad, I won't lie. Most companies don't bother reporting slow servers unless they outright break. Another question, back to my skimming addiction, is it only for one show or multiple ones? (Curiosity)

It's not just about your connection, it's about the connection between you and CR's CDN service, which differ between web/Flash and mobile/app streams. You could try the Win10 UWP app or the CR HLS Player Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cr-hls-player/aeajdeepnjjdekpbicjhfldagkjndjid?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon, both of which use a different source. Something may have changed on the end-to-end connection, and that may not have been on your or CR's ends.

No TV anime is animated at 1080p, and not all assets are necessarily even full 720p. The "1080p" video is just the source files that haven't been downgraded to a lower resolution when encoded.
