I really like Sword Art Online. It is good. It inspired me to study and work on higher brain cognitive function and its uses.

SAO inspired me to just stay away from most light novels. It really wasn't that great. If I were to be fair to it, the first half of Season 1 was decent. That should have been the true ending and it would have been alright. Nope! They just needed to milk it even more and come out w/ the 2nd half of one of the most horrible plots ever w/ soft core tentacle rape. I haven't seen Season 2, so I can't exactly say much, but I've heard that it wasn't all that great either. It's absolutely ridiculous that they're continuing to milk this series. Just let it die out already..oh wait, some fans are still keeping it alive

This reminds me of The Asterisk War (The Ass War is what I like to call it) in some ways...some people really do like mediocrity

spice and wolf Light novels are good and if you want an SAO like story with you know plot and charaters other than the main one that do something useful I reccomend Log Horizon.

I actually saw the first season of Log Horizon, I thought it was alright. Haven't gotten around to seeing the 2nd season though. I've been mainly reading manga, haha. Most anime have been leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

As for Sao, I really liked season 1, season 2's crybaby kirito annoyed the hell out of me but it was good towards the end and season 3 was a little better and cool mostly becuase of Sinon, the reaper character and guns.

The games get a lot of hate too, the fourth one is coming out soon, lol. the second one hollow fragment for psvita seems like the best out of all the games. Haven't played it yet but might get around to it soon. ^^

1st season was great. But, when I heard it got other seasons, I don't even bother watching it. In fact, I got lazy. lol I guess, I was really not into it. 1st season pretty much wraps it up for me.

I love SAO and I can also admit it has many flaws but I have always been good at looking past a show's/movie's etc flaws and look at it as a whole in the sense of pure plot.

Anyway the thing I love about SAO and honestly the only good thing about the second season is that it really talks about the Ethics and real dangers of "Full dive" virtual reality. The danger people will forsake our True Reality in favor Virtual Reality.

I still am all for "Full Dive" VR but I'm still interested to see how it will be used and how people will use it.

Anyone who is interested in this concept read "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline, it's a phenomenal book that takes this into account.

People always will hate on something when it is become popular, will say it is too mainstream or sell out. Soa may not be the best but it's definitely not the worst either, people need to not take too seriously a little anime show meant to entertain you. I loved first season and the makers of the show have been kind enough to try and give us more and a few games too. It's tuff living up to the past(first half of season 1), you're first success on something and keep people happy as they ask for more. I would have loved for season one(first half) to have continued forever but eventually people would tire of that too.

Thankfully the game hollow fragment is like a what if scenario where the story continues until the characters defeat the 100th floor I heard.

If we're not meant to take it seriously, then maybe the show shouldn't take itself seriously then? When a show like SAO is centered around plot and fails to execute said plot, you're damn right viewers are going to criticize its flaws. Sure, it's not the worst I've seen, but I don't personally dislike it just because it's popular. Otherwise, I wouldn't enjoy shows like Naruto or One Piece, even when they have flaws as well. Now granted, I definitely don't think it deserves the amount of popularity it has garnered when it's mediocre at best.

People whine to much as it is meant as entertainment not a huge debate about flaws. Granted it does have some, but the author did get better in the later stories which never made it to anime (belive me, keep reading shit stuff I find on Amazon when looking for books with a similar theme to SAO, I like SAO better then that crap). Also seen some good fanfiction centered in the SAO universe, perferably not following the main plot....couple really stood out.

What I am saying is; if you cannot turn your mind off and just enjoy it then it is not you cup of tea...go find something else cause what you like might no be what I like. If you have to make well over 1.5 hours worth of video on youtube in a 3 part series or find 107 flaws.....it is not that you like or despise it; it is just that you prefer to stand on a soap box to proclaim to the masses of your point of view for opinions centering on your dis-like cause you like to hear the sound of your own voice. Simple yes or no can get your opinion across just quickly, with a single flaw that you find (not a 1.5 hours or 107 problems).

Personally, I would of liked to see a fleshed out first season going from 12 episodes to 24 alone with better plot for SAO.

It's funny how people who try to defend something automatically call criticism whining. If you have to turn your brain off to get some sort of false enjoyment out of a show, then it's not a good show? I see that you went out of your way to criticize people who make YouTube videos on addressing the negatives in shows, yet you somehow think a simple yes or no is a better alternative because it's quicker? If people did that, then people would beg more questions on why they don't like the show. Believe it or not, addressing the positives and the negatives in a video for thousands of people to watch makes for a very entertaining and informative video for a lot of people.

Being one of the first anime I've ever watched, I thought it great for a while! But as the years flew by and my knowledge in anime and what good ones do good and bad ones do bad, my nostalgia for it was shaken when I rewatched it. There were so many things wrong with it that I'd never seen. Everything was so... bad. Other than the animation (which is pretty good) the plot after the first arc of season one was incredibly stupid. Kirito was such a self insert protagonist. He had no weaknesses. No personality. Nothing could pierce his plot armor. None of the girls got any character development save for Sinon. They were just waifu material. The plot holes... god the plot holes.
All in all, SAO is a terrible anime. That's not to say it's bad for beginners, because like I said, the glaring problems flew right over my head when I watched it. Good for a first anime, bad anime otherwise.
Now for the season 3. I don't usually judge books by their covers, but based off season 1-2 I don't think it will be good. I mean, look at Yui. That's not a good sign. Makes me think there will just be more forced fanservice and no plot.
