I have an older kindle fire that i recently got for watching anime and reading manga in bed but the cunchyroll app is not available on the app store.

my system version is: 7.5.1

Is crunchyroll still supported for the kindle fire?

If kindle fire is running on android maybe you can manually download the .apk file and install it like that?

To answer your question directly, natively, the CR app no longer works on older kindles. Even if you hunt down a "wild" apk file for a newer, but not the newest version and sideload it, it still won't start. I tried every single version from 1.1.4 all the way up to current before diving in and deciding to ditch the Amazon OS on it, because even though I could get those to install (up to about 2.0, at which point you need kit kat at least), but none of them would work until I used a real android OS.

Whether it is possible to use your hardware at all for CR depends on how old, and what size, and whether you want to pay to possibly install "perfectly android" OS on it (either Kit Kat or Lollipop) if it still has the factory-installed, frozen, never to be updated past 4.0, modified Ice Cream Sandwich version by Amazon.

Or, you could risk bricking it by rooting it and trying to install a cyanogenmod release yourself without paying. I don't recommend this unless you're very technically competent and you don't care if you can never use it again if something unexpected happens.

I bit the bullet and spent the $30 to get Lollipop 5.1 on my 8.9 KFHD (vs saving $10 for lower Kit Kat version). It works pretty good, but not perfectly. I'm still having compatibility issues with some additional apps I wanted (because they still think it's a Kindle when you try to install them) that needed a newer OS version. But I got both CR and Funi working on it finally (which neither would work before), and after some amount of pain, even got all my Amazon functionality back, too. In fact, it's even better, because Audible has a beta free "channels" content that is only available on Android or iPhone, not even on their own (older) product...

Thats a bummer.

Its a hand-me-down kindle that my mother got 2-3 ish years ago so i was surprised to learn that CR is no longer supported on it.

I tried installing some of the older APK files but they simply would not run, its really anoyying to say the least.

I mainly want this tablet for watching CR and reading manga on so i might just wipe its amazon OS.

I followed this route to install Google Play and then used it to get the CR app:

I have a 4th gen Kindle Fire HD.

However while the manga app works (with some bugs), the anime app doesn't seem to want to load videos right now.
