When Crunchyroll servers over, the weekend become bogged down they say hop over to VRV. Yet when you do there is no easy log in for CR members! Beyond annoying!

With Funimation moving subtitled version of catalog shows to Crunchyroll, can you please work with them to ensure that the home video version (i.e. the uncensored and final version) is used? Currently Crunchyroll just re-uses the censored broadcast version if it had a non-US international license, rather than the home video version that Funimation has. And recently like with Shimoneta, Crunchyroll got the censored version even when it did not simulcast it to other countries to my knowledge.

However, the problem is that with that model is that since the partnerships' plan is for Funimation to move their subtitled versions to Crunchyroll, then, if Crunchyroll uses a broadcast version, then there is NO WAY for anyone to view the Japanese-language subtitled - home video version online. Even if you pay extra for a separate Funimation subscription (not VRV), you would not be able to view the uncensored home video version (and any extras or different animation used in the home video version) on their site in subtitled form, only dubbed form.

While I share your concern about the disappearance of home video versions of some show from online, in the circumstance of those that still have existing simulcast rights in other countries, I can understand why they did it.

The short answer is that it is a lot less work. I don't mean just skipping having to encode and post new videos, but rather that since CR can't legally post the home video version for those other countries, they would have to create two sections, which would raise its own issues. One would be everyone getting the "Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region" warning on the show page (much like Dog Days) due to some of the videos not be available, as well as the "Why can't we view the uncensored versions?" posts from those people in the simulcast regions.

That said, understanding the reasons something was done doesn't mean one has to agree with it.

As for Shimoneta, although I haven't seen an explanation for it at either site, I have to assume that decision was on Funimation's side, since they would have supplied the video. If it had been an accident, I would have expected some comment on it by now, with a promise to correct it.

I dropped by /high-school-dxd/discussions and saw some comments/questions about a future CR release of the uncensored version. FYI, despite the first three seasons being uncensored, it's looking like with all new censored ecchi CR will keep the censored versions indefinitely. Funimation will put up the uncensored dub of Hero on their own service (and their VRV channel) when their BD comes out, but the uncensored sub will only be available on disc, not legally streamable anywhere. It's a bad situation. See these posts:

Someone over on the Funimation forum made a list of the titles they have that haven't been brought over to CR. There were a few errors (such as one title CR already had without Funimation, and another that had in fact already been brought over), but even accounting for that, the number was close to 100.
