What's the point of a partnership if they keep it exclusive for the people of USA?

Funi's blog said there are some shows they have to keep streaming on their site because of license agreements, including the subs. I'd like more information on that.It sucks that we won't know what those are before the 60 days are up.

(But overall I'm really excited about this!)

Hey, that's great. DanganRonpa 3 is the only show on Funimation Now that I watch that's not on Crunchy. That's pretty great since I don't have to subscribe to them to watch that one show.

licensing has nothing to do with the streaming company. It has to do with the holder of the title. Just like books and manga that's how manga sites publish illegal manga with translation. As soon as the publisher licenses their material for a new region all those sites in that region go dark because now it is a copyright issue. And with out them licensing the material for the region a legit streaming company can not stream. (hint also when licensing they do not always keep the same title due to conflicting with something already produced for the region they are trying to distribute to, that's one of the reasons titles aren't always the same here and there).

Hence Streaming companies can try to get publishers to licenses in more regions, but it is very expensive and if they do not think they can pull enough capital off it they won't. (when they publish they try to sell hard copies(manga and dvd's) they usually don't publish just to stream).

I know this is probably a dumb question, but, does this mean I can use my CR sub to get into Funi or do I have to sign up for an account with them to get their content?

You'll need two different subscriptions, just like now.

So I want to be clear on something. Is Crunchyroll going to be the place to watch SUBBED anime, and Funimation the place to watch DUBBED anime? Because if that's the case, I'll cancel my Funi subscription. I cannot tolerate watching anime in English.... >.>

Pretty much, yes.

From the FAQ (What if I subscribe to both services now?)

In general, you’ll get subbed anime from Crunchyroll and dubbed anime from FunimationNow.

Summary of some info from the Funi FAQ:

It's going to take several months for their subtitled content to be fully moved over to CR. Also, not absolutely everything subtitled is coming over. There will be a few titles that stay with Funi due to the current license agreements they have.

If you already have a subtitle only subscription at Funi, then they've already cancelled it for you. You'll have been upgraded to "All-Access" to the end of your current subscription period, and have had 60 days added on to it, but after that it will not recur.

(If you already have All-Access, then it will keep renewing (at the new lower rate), so once you decide that Funi no longer has enough subtitle content to keep your interest, it would make sense to cancel.)

Does this mean we will finally get the other seasons of Detective Conan / Case Closed? Other than what is here on CR and the first 5 seasons that FUNi released? I'd love you guys forever if you did.

These animes will never be avaiable in Brazil? (this question includes Gurren Lagann )
I'm also curious to know if Mirai Nikki and One Punch Man will someday be in Crunchyroll and avaiable in Brazil too.

Gurren Lagann is Aniplex so it wouldn't be affected by this at all. And One Punch Man is Viz so that would also not be affected by this at all either. The only one is Mirai Nikki would like show up on CR.

I may sound bitter here but is this the reason that Crunchyroll lost many Sentai shows a couple months ago or is that an unrelated issue?

Probably unrelated, but I wouldn't expect CR to be getting those shows back now. I can't see how Sentai would be happy about this arrangement, but I got the impression they were already pulling back from CR.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see further Sentai-licensed shows disappear from CR as their licenses come up for renewal (assuming they aren't already in an "at will" status). The question is what will they do with them? Hulu has curtailed what anime they will accept (especially older less popular titles), and it seems doubtful The Anime Network sees nearly as much as traffic as Funimation, much less CR.

That said, especially with Funimation and CR working together, I would be surprised to see them grabbing any simulcast titles, so I see little reason for concern on that front.
