Hello everyone, we've got a nice weekend surprise for you today!

The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star Part 1 is now available for Crunchyroll members worldwide except Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau!

Chise Hatori, 15 years old.

Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money – not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

She moves on with her new and peaceful life, slowly but surely, until one day, when she finds a Japanese picture book among the many sent to her from London by Angelica. It is a fateful book that discovered her in her younger years, when she was still troubled and lonely.

This piece is a prequel to Chise’s encounter with the Thorn Sorcerer.

Chise Hatori, eight years old.

This is my story.

What a weird time for this. Why is episode 1 out now rather than at the start/end of a season?

It's an OVA (3 episodes total), so it has an irregular release schedule. I assume they just wanted to get it up as soon as they could.

So this confuses me. If it's episode 1, part 1. Then does that mean the three episodes are actually six? or is it three episodes as in Part 1, 2, and 3 of episode 1. If that is the case, why call it episode 1?

There is only this prequel OVA. You have to read the manga for the actual story, or wait for a potential anime adaption (the chances are pretty high, I think).
